I've been scammed!!! Big time....any words of advise or encouragement?

About 3 years ago I was scammed.....Big time. I was a real estate agent. If any of you know about real estate agents, you know that we jump on every opportunity out there. I received an email stating that someone had an unique business opportunity and they needed a response. I responded saying that I might be interested and I would like to know what they needed. Some guy needed to move his family from Nigeria and needed someone to find them a house and help with moving and traveling arrangements. Before I knew it, I was assigned as the beneficiary of an account. There was suppose to be a lot of money, the amount was not disclosed at first. I was nieve and had never heard of people in the east scamming us innocent westerners out of a lot of money. Before long, I was needing to come up with money to cover fees, which I was told would be reimbursed to me.
To make a really long and painful story short, I ended up giving away about $7000 before I got smart and decided to give up. I even ended up getting a rather large check, which I deposited. The bank put a hold on most of the money but I was able to draw out 1%, which I did and forwarded on to my scammer. I was then stuck covering the amount when the check bounced. I am pretty sure there is nothing that I can do to recoop any of the money I have lost.
I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there that had gone through something similar and how they dealt with it. I have overcome some of the guilt and my spouse has forgiven me. I am not struggling financially and working my way out of the hole I have created for myself.
I would love to hear if I am alone or not.

I hear about lots of these scams and it's amazing how many of them seem to originate in Nigeria. It makes a change an estate agent getting scammed!

Well it happens to the best of us. It is best to conduct research first whenever we plan to spend money on something.

Those type of email are circulating around for years and most anything from Nigeria is surly a scam. Sorry about your lost and Glad your spouse forgive you. I would maybe try to report it to the news as some do news reports on these types of scams occasionally.

kc7tui that is really sad to hear.

You were taken in to what are called 419 scams.

Check out this site. They get back at them ;) www.419eater.com

I don't really no what to say other than I hope you now are more careful about what you get in your email and that what happened to you is very sad.
