I've accidentally clicked one ad on my website ...

I have installed AdSense on my websites for almost a year now, and never once clicked the ad served on any of my websites...until last week...

Last week, I did accidentally click on one of the Google image ads. I was installing and testing a banner script on my site and suddenly a wierd-looking banner (468x60) showed up. I didn't see the usual "Ads by Google" so I'm pretty sure that the ad was served by the new script, which I have to click once to validate the code.

Once clicked, the URL googlesyndication something is launched. That was when I realized my mistake. To make the matter worse, I just signed on to the control panel not so long ago, most likely with the same IP. I closed the web page in panic, not knowing what else to do...

Ever since the incident, my daily earning jumped about 4 -5times the average rate. Now that I'm even more restless. Will this be the ground for banning my account forever?

What should I do? Write an email to Google and confess my sin? Or simply wait until the end of the month to see if I continue to receive the paycheck?

    Advice appreciated.

Email them if you want to be on the safer side, I doubt whether one click will make a difference though.

write an email. Twice I have clicked my ads accidentally and emailed them, they simply wrote-back thanking me for my honesty and said be careful next time.

I usually write immediately after the accidental click with info on the time and the ad I clicked.

You have nothing to worry of if you click one of your ads.

You do not need to write them about it either.

But do not let it happen everyday or you'll get a letter.

Well - don't click 10 times a day everyday. Although it is likely that you as a publisher are also the visitor, by clicking once you need not worry about anything.

Are you kidding?. I'll never understand why people do that . . . unless they don't care about their adsense account.

G has no way of knowing whether you click the ads because you're interested in the website or trying to drive up your income. They consider all clicks on your own ads as fraud.

To be safe, why not just use the Google Adsense Preview Tool. It allows you to see your ads without generating fraudulent clicks.

Don't fret, I accidentally click ads several times a year from fat finger syndrome, and have never had a problem. They've got to account for mistakes and shared ip Internet users.

If is just 1 click are you ok. I dont think Google will red flag you just on 1 click.

Don't worry. I have accidently clicked on one of my ads before.
I did not inform Google. It only happened once.
It takes more than a click to get you banned off Google. Just try to be careful next time not to click on your ads.
