If you never allow your children to tie their own shoes, they will eventually lose the desire to do so. When my oldest son leaves for college, he does so with the knowledge, skills and resources that his mother and I will have provided him. He will be ready to move out into the world and find his own way. He will remain our concern, but it will be a transitioning period where he must begin take responsibility for his own life. We will always be available to him should he need us, but we will not interfere unnecessarily in his life. There will be mistakes made along the way, but with the proper foundation, he will turn them instead into lessons learned; and more important, have a greater sense of self-worth for having done so. The Iraqi people are a nation of over 8,000 years in age. It's great that they were given the assistance in ridding their nation of a ruler who was a threat to them and the rest of the world, but now it's time to let them move on. Our entire lives are built on timetables, so what is wrong with setting a realistic, reachable goal for not only the U.S. but for the Iraqi people of getting out of their way, and let them get on with their lives without our impositions? Shout It
We all love to know the future and plan for it, but this is one thing that has been taken day by day and will continue to work that way as long as Bush is in power.
Make some highlighted goals, and list ideals in which it would sufficient to leave. Not necessarily 'time-oriented' but something to see if there making progress rather than talk.
ShoutW pulled my article from their site ... can someone edit out the link please. I forgot they don't like free traffic coming to their site and also, but they apparently don't mind exploiting it either - they've adding annoying popup advertising. Back to the point at hand - goals will only be goals if there's no deadline in reaching them, or at least a reasonable timeframe.
Well, I suggest they do monthly reviews, and access that which they can reasonable put within timeframes ie training Iraqii troop can be put in timeframes...although not everything should be for security and common sense reasons. Just my opinion. ???
Yeah, um, your son doesn't have tens of thousands of crazy fanatics waiting to cut off his head when you turn your back.
I am sure he isn't being sent to college in a country where they hate him because of what his dad did to them.
Okay, so what does Bush bashing have to do with setting a timetable for getting our troops out of Iraq?
Because bush is the one that stated that getting the troups out of Iraq will have to be the job of the next administration.
I know I heard him say it in an address to the nation or some high level speech. Have to get going otherwise I would get you the exact time he said it. I really dont watch that much on politics, so I know I heard him say it.
I was trying to create an analogy that I thought could be understood. The point being, they need to be transitioned out from under our control. It's not a matter of Bush-bashing for me. It's not a liberal or conservative matter for me. However, it is the right thing to do in my book. I have profound respect for Senator McCain (R-AZ), but I don't agree with his stance on this issue; there are several Democrats who do not support a timetable - it's not a left or right issue, but one that needs to be worked out by all sides and soon. And yes, the president has said on several occasions that this will ultimately be an issue for the next president. To that I can only say I hope his conscious is clear, there's no need to be there that long, with more troops in peril, the economy in the tank, our image and world relations rotting, so that the flow of cash doesn't dry up to Haliburton and other cronies. The timetable issue is an embarassing one to the administration because they've yet to set a goal and meet it yet ... training Iraqi forces namely. But don't worry, when the GWOT is going bad, they'll just divert and confuse the issues by getting citizens fired up over immigration and constitutional amendments to openly discriminate, aka Gay Marriage Amendment.
Go to abc.com and watch the video that the troops shot with no editing and you will see the timeline, we are getting our asses kicked and have no choice but to leave! http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=1913627&entertainment=true http://infospace.abcnews.com/_1_2ZTKUFI041KDGHM__info.abcnws/search/web/video+iraq+war Our guys on the ground can't believe that the United States of America sent them there to be sitting ducks without even enough troops or equipment to fight with, this war was done on the quick without proper planning and the Russians are not going to stop sending weapons into the war zone through Iran and Syria and neither are the North Koreans and China!
I hate to say it anthony, but I don't think the lack of planning was a mistake so much as it was purposeful by Rumshead and Chumsy - the longer this draws out, the better for them. Our soldiers deserve better, our nation expects more. Sadly, citizens will bitch and moan, but don't vote their opinions.
No, I actually heard him say it in a speech. He may have just meant that it he didn't have enough time left for it to happen. Either way, it will not happen in his term.
They have already established permanent military bases for a future wider war guys, this is almost as much reality as Bush saying that the war was over on the Battleship 3 years ago!
