I'm trying to get my first adwords ads set up, and I'm stuck as to where to get the tracking link to use as my destination url. From my ad, the user will go to my website, where there will be an opt-in form. I use aweber for my optins. So, should I get the tracking link for my destination url from aweber? An answer that I got from a knowledgeable marketer said yes, but then aweber said that they don't even have tracking links to give me. I'm so confused, and stuck once AGAIN without being able to just get this *@#! campaign going and see if this first website of mine, which took me seven months to even get up, will make any money! (Sorry, had to rant..) Below is an e-mail answer that I received from an online marketer about how to do the tracking links, but again, aweber says that they don't "do" tracking links. What do I do? You can do it this way: 1) From google, the url they will go to can be an aweber tracking (they do tracking there). 2) Because you're using an aweber form, the opt-in tracking should be built in (see aweber documentation) 3) As the thank you page for your AWEBER FORM, you use a 1shoppingcart tracking link. This link takes them to sales page. 4) You use a second 1sc tracking link to see how many people who see the FIRST page click the second link. 5) You use a third 1sc tracking link to see how many people who see the second page click the third link. 6) Since it's a "last cookie" which means the last ad tracker will get the credit, you won't see any sales for the first two ad trackers but they just exist to let you know how many people proceeded. The last ad tracker should get the sales numbers as it was the last ad clicked on before ordering. 7) Once ordered, 1sc automatically records the sales and does all the stats you find in your adtracker reporting. 8) As a follow up, you can use google's website optimizer code on your amember thanks.php page as well and set google's website optimizer code up on the FIRST LANDING PAGE. Keep in mind because you already have the full story through your other tracking, this is just another way of seeing if numbers fluctuate. sometimes you find slight differences. Adwords >>> aweber tracking url >>> opt in >>> opt-in thank you page (1sc ad tracker) >>> sales page >>> 1sc adtracker >>> sales page 2 >>> 1sc adtracker >>> sales page 3 >>> order form >>> thank you page (has google code on it and since 1sc did the transaction, the sale has already been attributed to the last ad tracker clicked).
What kind of tracking link are you trying to get? If it's for a product, you need to get that link from whatever affiliate program you are promoting. In the Display URL in Adwords, just put your website address, and in the destination URL put whatever url you want the traffic to go to. On your website, put the tracking link wherever you are sending the traffic to the product's landing page (the vendor).
To me, it sounds like you can use Google Analytics and use the conversion tracking to achieve your end gola here. Your conversion goal can be supplimented by setting up funnels to "track" where your user is going on your site (en route to your conversion). Is this what you are trying to get at?
