On October 23rd after spending a couple of hours getting together a great list of free PHPLD Templates sorted by Version #, I announced my resource to the public for reference. Little did I know someone would later copy my list and make it known as their own. My Thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=165182 My Blog: http://www.blueraccoon.org/blog/?p=5 Copy with no credit: http://scriptdebate.com/?page_id=25 (November 10th) It's a shame this happens these days. BTW, I found out through a referral from another well-known Directory Source that thought it was the first list.
Copyright laws might cover that - had you registered. And it wouldn't be worth your time to take legal action unless there's profit involved.
If its true jeff then see that member also leave his comment there at NRLMedia's blog http://www.blueraccoon.org/blog/?p=5 Strange...
Very darn suspicious! I was going to do the same on my directory blog. Now I may rethink that idea lest someone accuses me of creating a list that might be close or the same as someone else. Or better yet, will send you a pm.
Well nothing much you can do i think. Maybe you can tell google about it since he use them. You can also ask him and name him on this forum and off course give him red. He will loose a lot of credit on this forum if he just copy and paste in his own blog. Sure i get ideas what to write on my blogs from this forum but i do not copy like that very sad. I gave you some green so you feel better.
I have not copy pasted it. I just took some idea and reference from your list too. I think I have different list than yours, there are few templates which are listed in mine and not in yours, which there a few which are not listed in mind. Can't we build pages/websites with same idea ? There are hundreds of pages like best wordpress plugins, all wordpress templates, phpld templates, mods etc. and all have the same content. I took References for collection of templates list from below (including yours): http://www.phpldtemplates.info/ http://www.phpldtemplates.com/freephpld.php http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/ http://www.web-designers-directory.org/phpLD-template.php http://www.thehulldirectory.co.uk/templates.php I have now added all those references on the site page including yours. Hope its OK now. Let me know am I still doing anything wrong?
Now its OK, remember always give reference bcoz they work so hard and if by mistake also ( not intentionally) but if u forget than it really pisses off I know you are good guy may be you havent done intentionally but please take care from now onwards cheers mate
Copyright laws cover it even if you don't register. If you can prove you compiled the list and were the first to publish it you will likely win a case against him.
Copyright infringement is wrong, but there isn't any copyright in facts. So I'm not sure that any infringement is actually going on in this case. You can't prove it unless there are omissions and errors in the list that are reproduced in the copy. But it looks like a fairly comprehensive list, and there aren't that many PhpLD templates around anyway. I'm not even sure that NRLMedia's is the first such collection of these templates to be published online, I feel sure I've seen others around the place.
But without registration, he can claim no damage compensation. It would just be a waste of time and money.
I hope that guy has apologized so why to waste time, money and energy.. ask him to put your link so that everything will be solved.. if you dont mind
I told I have not copy pasted the work. I also added source of references for the list. If I am still doing anything wrong, then tell me, I will remove that page
You do not need to take it away change it or give credit to the person that should have credit on that page.
it depends what country your in. In the uk if you publish something unique that you have written then you automatically have copyright ownership of it from a legal standpoint. I'm not sure if you can claim a list of links available in the public domain is an original work tho.
Well, to my old mind, if you create a list of all available templates, and then someone else does the same, there is no problem or copyrights. Heavens, I have seen a lot of sites with lists of templates, forums, etc etc Now if the two lists, or any two lists, are exactly the same, there might be a minor problem. I was going to create a list of free and paid phpld templates, plus templates for other directory scripts, on my directory blog. But I will gladly give credits if I can shorten my work and my time on developing a list if I can get permission to copy someone else's list.
Dito! "IMHO having a list of templates on a blog is not copying unless its exactly the same order. In every respect, how can you keep others from applying templates listing to blogs ect....
If he hasn't changed it, it was in the exact same order with the same anchor text...He just changed the titles and took away the credit next to the link. (looks like he altered it since the first post)
