It's official Google has opened up a can of whoop ass on directories

No way. That guy has nothing to with me. It doesn't work that way.

Directories are just a class of websites the same way blogs are. The fact that some operators are unscrupulous does not by default make everyone in that class guilty.

Well of course it would drop 75% if you disappeared.

How much (numerically) has this effected your traffic? [estimation if you do not want to expose your true numbers]

Percentages say nothing if it was 10 visitors a day from Google.

From your post in other threads I Know this to be true. BUT - the outside world will look at this thread and judge it as a whole - not on an individual who speaks true.

(BTW - there is more than one speaking true here)

    Correct i believe...

Ive just been peaking around and have noticed most off these "missing main pages"
are found on page 4 thru ? depending on the directory in question.

I can only assume that depending on the backlink count for each directory.
the site in question was found on page 6 where others are only on page 2
and some all the way in the back of thier own listings, which would lead me to
believe that depending on how many times the given violations occured

    thx

Hmmm... if the whole outside world is looking at this thread to judge all directories, then that would make DP more powerful than Google itself.

Wow, I'm humbled to be allowed to post here.

Gosh, I hope so. Why should we have all the fun? ;)

Ok, in general terms, that isn't that significant if I assume correctly that Zorg Links gets more than 150 visitors per day.

In the big picture, Zorg Links probably gets most of it's traffic from it's promotion, which in turn helps with Google Serps, but it's the promotion that drives visitors, not Google. Therefore, in the end, it's the directories promotion that is the main producer of traffic and Google really is obsolete in terms of % of traffic delivered.

Don't get me wrong, keywords help, but as far as directories are concerned, there are far better gateways than search engines.

If we were talking about other sites that rely solely on SE traffic, it would be a different story.

If i told you google made up 2% of traffic for yesterday your assumption sounds tiny :p

Well, it's always good to assume wrong ;) That's great news for Zorg Links! and even better news that Google doesn't hamper it's traffic.

So bidding directories are "high traffic"? I would never have guessed that. What types of visitors do you get?

Don't know what big players you people are exactly referring to. But usually, 3 days is enough time for any smart business men. If these smart business men weren't doing anything wrong, then they shouldn't be scared to speak up and get into the controversy. Seems like they have to "gather as much information as possible" for a reason?

I asked earlier.. but got lost I guess... Who exactly are the "big players" that you are all looking towards? Everyone that I consider to be "big players" - Chris, Anon, Mikey etc.. seem to be spending and receiving submissions. If that doesn't speak volumes I don't know what a "everything is fine" would do besides waste their time with having deal with threads like this. You want to know what the "big players" are doing/thinking? Look around... while you are all sitting here they are innovating, advertising and gaining a foothold. They are finding new ways of advertising and generating traffic that is beneficial to their listed sites. Anyway, that's what I see.. as always.. I am probably mis-guided or wrong.. :)

That's really poetic how you worded it. Most people who run businesses would "pop in" and comment about their business. But I guess if they're too busy innovating, advertising, and gaining a foothold, than so be it. :)

hmmmm... well I guess they have commented. Like I said, I am probably wrong.

I wonder why Apple didn't quit business or make a bunch of comments when Microsoft was "kicking them all over the place" maybe because they were too busy working on something called the iPod? How come they never told the public they had another trick up their sleeves until the iPhone was finished?

Why didn't Oracle comment when everyone was switching to SQLServer? No comment until when? Oh yah, they came out and bought PeopleSoft...

Go back to work... Google isn't your biggest enemy.. You are.. you control your businesses destiny. Believe it or not, the directory industry will continue regardless of what Google does..
