It's official Google has opened up a can of whoop ass on directories

Good point. They were never worth much more than any other site in real terms but who knows they might even get de-indexed one of these days. What happens to all those sites that were reckless enough to link back to them and to strut around waving their flag?

Sorry but you have a lot to learn about this industry.... but one thing I can teach you right now... that little button on the right that says 'QUOTE'... it's your friend and it helps others to know who you are replying to.

 

You are quick off the mark but I think we all have a lot to learn abut this industry. Some just have a little more to learn than others.

 

All we can do is wait, all the talk in the world won’t give us instant answers.

Do I really care? Yes I do however I feel lucky as my directories are not my main source of income.

It’s my belief that all will return to normal if this is not the case you can bet your life that more directories will be affected.

I have a few ideas as to why this has happened if my suspicions are correct a few more will have the same problem.

What goes around comes around.

I feel for the bigger fish at this moment in time.

Yes, but there are some of us who have been in the industry for several years who have seen these so called penalties come and go, plus some stay... ultimately those of us who care are still here.

Then in that case you should understand why its necessary to stretch a point here and there. If I am wrong, which I dont think I am, I am only a little bit wrong. But when its weighed up against all the nonsense which has got us to this point it should also be clear to you whose actually right and who is wrong

2 days ago for the search phrase 'web directory' alive was in position 5

Yesterday it was page 5

Now page 7

Also typing in 'alive directory' into the search bar, the main site is nowhere to be seen.

 

I have no problem with people stretching a point, I do have a problem with people scaremongering based purely on speculation and NOT fact which has happened in this thread by a number of people (And no that isn't directed at you personally).

I think this entire community is a disgrace sometimes as they forget that the majority of us are all on the same damn team. It isn't a case of who is right and who is wrong, or a little bit wrong.

Why should I care if it is you, malcolm1, britishguy or Pheonix who is right? Simply put I don't, all I care about is providing a service to my paying customers by continually improving and working on my web site.

The only FACT that has been stated is that a number of directories no longer appear number one for a search of their name. That is IT, the rest is guess work, none of us know if it is just a an algo update or a penalty and I won't go into detail about what I "think" it is.

 

Just as long as we learn from it and can chalk it up as experience. What else can it be other than a warning to all of us?

 

Not strictly true, a search for main keywords is showing a major decline.

 

I was thinking of registering GoogleIsEvil .com but sadly its already registered.

 

Well that purely depends on your viewpoint, because for others a search for main keywords is now showing a major increase.

I have only checked the alive directory and my own.

Not heard anyone screaming their directory has shot up the rankings but I may have missed it
