So back to the original question. The more I think about this, I think it is not so much about us pulling all of our foreign aid out as it is pulling out of places others do not like. You could pump money into Muslim countries all day long, so long as you do not provide aid to Israel too. I think where the real problem lies is not in the underappreciation of US aid, but the disgust some have with where the aid goes.
I just grow tired of the way the rest of the world treats the USA. Maybe sweden has it sort of right (except their immagration policy). Just lay back and screw the rest of the world, including Israel, let Irael cease to exist, then let the psychos turn on themselves after israel is no longer an issue.
We're just a scapegoat. Give it time, if there was no Israel, no US, there would still be something for the nay sayers to bitch about. There always is. Some people just get off on complaining.
This sub-thread is over. I have PM'd ccole and hope to continue this sub-thread there only. I apologize to everyone in the thread for boring the hell out of them and wasting their time. If you want a status update of the Google action and any subsequent legal action, please PM me.
A public apology was part of a deal struck by both of us to avoid getting canned from DP. I missed your apology to me there, Will. Will, I would also like to take a moment to suggest that if you get any requests for information on that lawsuit of yours, you make a new thread and keep us ALL up to date. Thanks for asking, Henny. Now, back to the subject at hand...
Really, it is our own fault. But wait, let me explain... How can we expect foreigners to have a good impression of America, when Al Gore, Ted Kennedy, Madeline Albright, John Kerry, John Murtha, and even the Dixie Chicks devote so much of their time to making anti-American statements? The rest of the world is only parroting US. First, we have to improve our image with ourselves, then we can improve our image with the rest of the world. Today, if a famous American were to make a speech saying "America is great", it would get no press coverage. If the same famous American were to make a speech saying "America kills Muslim babies and puts them in baby food which they sell to Africans at ridiculous prices", it would make all of the major news outlets and there would be a serious debate regarding what proof we have that we are not indeed oppressing the Africans by selling them overpriced baby food manufactured from Muslim babies. Clearly, the major source for anger at America begins with the American mass media and their tools in the far left political establishment. We build the meme -- Al Qaeda only spreads it.
This kind of attitude started in the Middle East, Sovjet, China and other communist dictatorship and then slowly spread to Europe and now also in America. But yes, the basis of the problem is in the American leftists that accept this paranoia. Why are this happening? Our argumentation are logical, serious and moderate, while their is bullshit, bias and aggressive. The little 'logic' they use has unlogical grounds. It's almost atheist-evangelical.
First, when you say we give more money to "poor" countries, are you talking about straight USD or percentage of GDP? Second, what diseases has the USA come up with the cure on its own? Would you consider POLIO to be one of the biggest threats that's come along in history? Take some time, learn about world politics and pay attention to our own foreign policy. We do quite a bit of blaming ourselves. It's not all one way. Picking up all our toys and going home because one of the kids on the playground called us a bad name is ludicrous.
Something interesting I found reading CD reviews... Musician (6/96, p.90) - "...gangsta rappers pretty much share the values of their Republican detractors: the emphasis on making money, the righteousness of bearing arms, the wonderfulness of consumption, respect for hierarchy and loyalty to one's own as overriding principles..."
BTW if you were unaware about this let me refresh your mind, a major part of the total engineers and doctors in USA are from India, just in case u dint know.
I agree with yo-yo on the parts I left in the quote, but I think that maybe he thought it means something else. detract
There probably is a large amount, but I doubt it is a major part. If you have statistics on this it would be interesting to see. But, I am not sure where it plays in this discussion anyways. LOL. But, then again, I might have just missed your point.
