Are you joking ? Google killer, yeah it does look like. Howmany billion pages your site can index in one day, BTW? A PHP/MySQL script looks too powerfull for the same!

You may run into copyright issues with yahoo if you ever manage to get some traffic. Hope you atleast heard about, Yahoo! Slurp

These were my immediate thoughts too... the days of search engine startups are over I fear - much as I love the idea of one guy taking on the big companies.

Webmasters will be all over your algo trying to exploit it for their financial gain and you'll have to tweak like crazy to outwit them. Google et al have teams devoted to doing that... can you do it on your own?

As for the name, the old Slurp bot was the first thing I thought of too!

I welcome your new search engine, as I welcome any new search engine that doesn't believe buying links is spam.

A lot of people have been posting critical comments, that do nothing but repeat. If nothing comes out of this, at the very least Nick, you got practice. I admire your control over some of the comments left in this thread. People need to grow up. From what I understand, this is suppose to be a business forum. Support, and suggestions will help... Not cutting remarks; Didnt you get all that out of your system in highschool?

Listen mate, your a joke at the moment! Change the layout to something with a white background, has a simple logo, and looks unique.

    http://www.google.ae/search?hl=ar&q=S&btnG=بحث+Google‏&meta=

Take a look at this site, make all the search stuff on the right instead of the left maybe?

Are you using php and mySQL for the script? If you are, then i recommend you don't, after indexing 100,000 pages, your database will be going 0.1mph. I recommend you use cgi and another database software, but i am unsure which one is best.

mySQL is unstable under massive loads, if google used php and mysql, it would take 1,200 seconds to do 1 search.

I admit that some of the DP members here are being harsh.

I have offered to help (at a cost of $0.00) on MSN, and your site will not work as a "personal project" as you said, because you will need other stuff to help.

If i were you, i would change your domain name too, because that one is very close to one of the competitiors, and it will cause a chance of legal interception by Yahoo, which you will finish you off within a week.

Unless you let me help you, you are on your own on this one.

    Simple;

    1. Change your domain (for legal reasons)
    2. Change your script to CGI (php and mysql under load will crash)
    3. Change the layout (I got confused browsing your site, even with 4 links)

    Hope i helped.

    Rob

Google can just brush things to the side.. Even if anything gets close to Google they'll jus buy it from you.

He has registered a new domain. Only me and him know what it is, and i am not going to post it, but it is a brandable name, and it doesn't have the word "search" in it.

I think if people work together on things, instead of shooting every idea down that seems unrealistic; then together we may actually be able to do something. We cover a lot of ground. Its something that not many people think of.
