I would add: Will you be able to mass message your fan or group members? Will you be able to see their emails too?

 

It very much depends on your goals. Fan pages are much better for marketing your business than group pages. Fan pages do NOT allow you to mass email.

Nah...I don't think so. It was possible until a few months ago, but Facebook has now changed the rules apparently.

 

I'd opt for the Fan Page. Fan pages can have unlimited "likes". If you're doing groups, then they're under your personal friends, and that's limited to 5000 people.

Fan pages are visible to any unregistered users too, that is the reason they are indexed quickly. However groups have an option of sending invites in bulk to all the group members, which fan page do not have.
I feel, that is why groups are more better for viral marketing as even any group member can also send bulk invites to his/her friends. Facebook fan pages are good if you are planning for a long term relationships with your fans or viewers. On the other hand Facebook groups are good for promoting or marketing an active or quick strategy or discussion and attracting quick attention.

Facebook Fanpages are more effective then a group. People find it easy to get linked with a Facebook fan page and get updates on their walls to which they can comment then and their without having to actually participate in a group. Plus social media wise, Fan Pages take the lead.
