It's all about relationship.

I don't know how she does it? Well, not really......

My wife, (who care absolutely nothing about Internet Marketing), is able to start a forum or a webpage about one of her passions and get thousands of followers and subscribers.

    They all love her.

She has been able to do that for years without trying at all.....

One day (about 4 years back), I went into one of her websites and decided to add a block of AdSense code. Within a few hours I had my first $xxx.xx day EVER.

When she found out that I had "ruined her page" she got extremely mad and made me take off the code.

At that time she had about 10 properties and websites that could have garnered her $1,000's of dollars but she didn't care. (It not about the money to her)

    ...........

As I'm speaking now... My wife still has tons of sites with tens of thousands of UV a week. And still she won't monetize.

Anyway..... The thing that still amazes me is she knows absolutely NOTHING about backlinking, SEO, or any of that "IM Stuff". Yet, her pages are all indexed high in Google for some REALLY major keywords.

    .....................

To my wife, the Internet isn't a marketing "get rich quick tool". The Internet is a place where she can build relationships and get a massive group of like minded people together.

(That is when she's not kicking people's butt's in League of Legends)

Its another kind of thinking :)
Your wife has became successful without having backlinks and its possible. But its depends of niche of website and also global interest about that subject.

This is a very nice story. I know tons of people who are making money with what they love to do or passionate about.. Building relationship in community where people have similar interests and providing useful information to your audiences is what keep them coming back for more.. What some of the forum or blog your wife writing about? She a truly wonderful person and I guess that is what make people come back more and more.. unfortunately she made you take off the coding huh? heh

The Internet allows a lot of different people to network, connect and interact with each other. As a result, you are 100% correct, it is all about relationships and connecting with people.

Your wife obviously has a very natural talent for this, and I would love to have her skill and ability to do it. I know if I could, when it got to the point where I was getting the traffic levels you describe, I know I would probably look to monetize the site. Maybe that mindset is why I cannot do what your wife does though, perhaps my head is too far in the money, and not in the "relationships" side of things.

Thanks for sharing your story though, it has given me a lot to think about.

websites age... and she provides unique content i suppose.

and perhaps we should consider that google sees no kind of monetiziation on her sites so they know she does it for "fun". maybe this is why she ranks high for certain keywords.
just a wild guess but could anyone share their opinions?

What makes it great is the fact that she's doing it purely for the love of it. That's all the motivation she needs, and whilst there's people whom set up websites purely to make money she's turning the opportunity away! - I guess she's probably doing so well because of the unique content as well as keywords (of course, as if there's a lot of content on a specific topic there's definitely a chance specific keywords come up very frequently). Not forgetting the networking! - Well done to the wifey.

I actually will tell you what one of the things were (kind of)

Years back, my wife had a huge love for a certain American Idol. From the second she saw this person audition she created a fan site to make sure that he would become "America's Choice". She picked the right horse on that one because this guy had a cult following for YEARS.

Anyway. Her site was number 1 for almost a year for any keywords related to this guy.

Warning: Don't try this at home..... My wife did this Waaaaaaay before everyone else on the internet started doing this with American Idol Contestants.

I hope this post and the one above have helped some of you.

    -Good Luck :)

I really like this story. There is so much hollow crap out there now, that on the surface looks really good - but delivers nothing.
Makes me think about all these "How to get more content!" themed ideas. I hate bloating things with useless 'content'.

They need substance, quality, depth and passion. When you have that, you don't need any "content".

Beautiful! I guess it's something we [internet marketers/professionals/SEO experts/web designers] deal with on a regular basis. Trying to find that right balance between loving what we do so much we put our heart and soul into it and making money.

Sometimes the pressure of trying to put food on the table gives us a mindset that we must create as much content as quickly as possible, without thinking about the underlying quality of it all.

Yes, I'm guilty of this too!! Unfortunately all too often :)

    Yes! Of course it is....

The answer to making money online and making money offline is always going to be; "BUILD A RELATIONSHIP FIRST, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE".

Build a relationship with your client or potential client first (if you can) then talk business...
