I'd rather have cold weather than hot. Its been around 95 the past fiew days.. even as late as 7:30PM. Wouldn't be so bad, but we don't have AC, and its been _really_ humid. Josh
Josh, you should look into one of these babies: http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?prod_id=168192&cm_mmc=1hd.com Our A/C went out at work so I bought one for our (600 ft2)office. I think they have ones that start at $300 or so. And ours shipped for free.
I've got one similar to that at one of our Remote POPs. It does a fairly good job keeping a 8 X 10 Outdoor shelter cool. Of course I have a back up unit in there was well. See here: http://home.mia.net/~jeremy/tower/wpops/burlingtontower/BurlWPOP-7-24-03/
I may have to add a window unit. We have central heat and air, and an energy efficient unit at that, but it's just not enough. From midnight to 12pm, we do ok, but in the heat of the day, it's just not cool enough. I don't like the heat at all. I'm a winter guy. You can always put more on, but you can only take so much off.
That looks pretty sweet. A bit out of my budget though I was looking at a little portable one on thinkgeek.com, really small.. mainly for like cubicals or something. I think it would work nicely on my computer desk.. which is where I spend most of my day anyway Josh
I can't believe so many of you dislike the heat over the cold. I grew up in KC, MO where we had all 4 seasons - and the only 1 i miss is spring. It may be 100 degrees all summer but after being in phoenix for a couple years I'm used to it, and for the most part it doesn't even bother me anymore. The only time it really bothers is when it's humid, or hits over 110.. I'll be laughing all fall/winter/spring long why we enjoy 65-75 degree days and I wear shorts all year round why the rest of you get to shovel snow
I was born there... Clay County to be exact. North Kansas City Hospital. Planning a nice ride in September down the the V-Rod factory. I love the midwest in the Fall personally. But again, with me it is not so much the heat as it is the humidity. I can take heat all day long so long as it is not un Godly HUMID! The thing I liked about my last trip to Tucsan was while it was super hot in the day, it was dry. I was so warm one night I left the doors open to the apartment and was amazed when I awoke around 6AM FREEZING to death. It goes from one extreme to the next with no in between.
Well I was looking forward to a nice 88 F day, but the sun had something else in mind and we cooked up to 98 F today. The AC in my section of the building at work was out, so that was rough. It got even hotter over there... I really hope they get it fixed.
I just moved to Las Vegas from NYC and trust me....the 115 here today was like nothing compared to a NYC 100. And I think it was like 105 today in NY. The humidity is just terrible. Here I am totally chill and relax and sure it's hot but like a couple have pointed out ...for about 10 weeks you get some hot that you stay indoors but the other 42 weeks it's just amazing. I mean AMAZING. btw I live 45 minutes from a ski resort and 30 minutes from the strip and about 45 minutes from Lake Mead (largest man made lake in north america). In NYC I was close to people and that's about it. I love Vegas so much!
I miss the springs because of a special mushroom that grows there (only in spring, right after light rain). It's called the Murrell (sp?) mushroom and if fried in the right batter its one of the best tasting foods on earth (as far as I'm concerned.). I believe missouri is one of the very few places they even grow in the entire world. I also miss all the fishing But on the upside - my mother who has every back problem known to man (arthritis, scoliosis, slipped disc) couldn't even stand up in the midwest b/c of the humidity.. here you can barely tell she has a problem at all Not to mention I live roughly 3 hours or less from : San Diego, Las Vegas, Lake Havasu and Rocky Point.
There is definately something beneficial about hot, dry weather. My mother suffered from terrible arthritis in her hands when she lived in cold, dreach Scotland but here is Tenerife´s hot, dry weather she has no problem at all.
I would rather be in Hot dry. Today the humidity came in and is expected to be around for a while. I can't wait till October, that's usually when things start cooling down a bit.
The past couple of days here it's been 110 + and it's ment to be getting hotter What is sad is that its not peek season yet, will no doubt get up to 120-140 again like last year.
Here it's cloudy, windy, wet and fairly cold. I bet if you had the option you'd not want to swap places. Give me 110+ anyday. My tan needs topping up.
I'm in Oregon for a few days and cannot believe how cold it gets here at night (in the middle of Summer).
Swap? No way! Not if that means I'd miss you when you come here, Mademoiselle Mella. But I think I'll take my 77 degrees (25c) and 80% humidity over your weather.
It was so hot and humid this morning that my sunglasses fogged up when I stepped out of my car. A/C and limo tint are a wonderful thing!
We finally broke 100+ today... I think my new favorite time of day is when the sun goes down. At least it cools down a bit then...
