We need to rethink our pro-globalist policies in how they relate to our manufacturing. We need to use whatever tools we can to give our manufacturing an advantage, like forcing China and Mexico to enforce some of the same standards that we do, or anything that will help negate our disadvantage in the manufacturing arena.

What made this country great was manufacturing. How the hell are we supposed to compete in this sector with the developing economies like China?

I don't know how we can remain a great power if we don't get back to what made us great: making real stuff. There has to be a way that a rich, powerful, developed nation can compete in manufacturing in a shrinking and rapidly developing world.

I'm wondering how much the stimilus is going to help the US when people spend the money buying electronics and phones made in China. There's a lot of talk about spending the money on infrastructure but all you hear about is building road and bridges that will most likely use foreign steel.

Rebuilding the US military could be a good use of the money. Start building humvees, transport aircraft, new ships, F-35 fighters and modernise US bases. The money would be spent in the US and put a lot of people to work.

I think it would help a lot more than giving Gov. Rod Blagojevich a 100 billion to build some bridges. The big dig in Boston is still a mess and this will be even worse.
