Issues with new .org.uk domain

I bought a new domain name this week, and it happens to be .org.uk. I set up the nameservers and the initial test index page (just saved it as index.html in the base folder for the domain) and then waited for everything to work out. The next day, it still wasn't working but I let it be since it can take up to 48 hours or whatever. Later in the day, out of curiosity, I tried the new domain name through a proxy browser, and it worked. It displayed the index page that I put up instead of the error page. But when I checked it on my computer (Firefox and IE), it just showed the error page. Clearing the cache and history didn't help. I guess I'll just give it some more time, but it just seems weird that proxies seem to be updating significantly sooner than my internet connection.

Any ideas or suggestions? Or maybe just an explanation for what could be taking it so long to work for me? (I'm on a college campus so they provide me internet, in case that matters)
    Thanks!

change ur dns address to open one like 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2 if it becomes too late.
