Issues with inflated bid estimates on new campaign

    Hi all,

I have been using Adwords for around 5 years to promote our company.

Approx 8 months ago we redesigned our website in order to improve the relevancy of our site in relation to our adword ads with a view to decresing our CPCs.

We launched the campaign last week for our new website (which has been live for 8 months) and out of 200 keyword phrase, google is thus far only showing 2. For the rest it says that our minimum bid is too low and should be a minimum of $1.30.

I am using the same keyword combinations as for the old campaigns for the old website. The old website and my ad text were completely unoptimised, yet for the same keyword phrases, I was paying $0.13 - $0.30 per click. When I say unoptimised I mean shockingly random!!

This new website has been deliberately designed with Adwords in mind and the wording of the ads are as relevant as possible to the webpages that they link to.

I telephone google and the 'googler' told me that I needed to optimise my ads ... that is until she looked at our campaign and confirmed that there was no issue in realtion to relevancy/optimisation. She then said it was PROBABLY because this is a new campaign and google has no historical data in order to calculate the relevancy of our keywords. What about all the historical data from my previous campaigns + all my competitors?? Her advice was then to wait for 2 weeks and see what happens. I suspect that 2 weeks later and my ads still won't be running. I have set up new campiagns in the past and this has never happened before.

I'm thinking that I may have to stop this campaign and and unpause the old campaigns for the old site - waste of money on website development but at least we'll have some new customers.

I am becoming increasingly sceptical of google. This is not the first issue we have had with google. I hope I am wrong and that the googler was not just fobbing me off with her answer!

Can anyone else provide any input on this situation?
