I have recieved funds from paypal around 2 months back It was sent in 4 transactions all to gether around 2650$ I dispacted the goods to that person 2 months back . He recieved it and everything was fine . I recieved a email that my paypal funds are under hold .. Unauthorised Payment I had 500$ in my account and now it has -2100$ debt The person says he didnot intiate any claim . So i called up paypal They said it may be bcos the person used Fraud Credit Cards. Should the seller be responsible for Fraud Credit card payment ..or should paypal be .. This is very stupid on paypal to take up such cases. after delivering the goods if paypal says ,the payment was fraud who will be at whole loss ?? Why should i be in Loss ??
Two months ?! thats a long time, but thats the problem with paypal they can put your funds under hold if they receive a chargeback from the credit card company. I think all cc (mastercard / visa /etc) allow chargebacks upto a period of 6 months, thats why i hate to take credit card payments in paypal. To answer the question; there is no way you can get the money now if the buyer actually paid you using fraudulent methods(some one else's account or fraud credit cards)
I've had problems in the past with buyers recalling payments through paypal. The payments were for digital goods and I had little proof of transfer so paypal returned the money to the buyer. Since I've been able to develop better proof of transfer, but this chargeback thing scares me. Paypal takes no responsibility whatsoever. Is there a way to determine whether or not a paypal payment was made via credit card or not? If not the safest option would be to downgrade your paypal account to not accept credit cards.
Same things happen to me. 1,047 dollars down the drain because of people using stolen accounts. Now my account is locked and i am unable to unlock it..
If i am going to be receiving paypal balance payments (non credit card) i usually take it on my 'Personal Account'. To make sure i only accept credit card payments from trusted buyers. P.S ( before anybody says, you are legally allowed to have one personal and one premier account together, read the FAQ section at paypal )
Paypal are a law to themselfs, i try not to use it much as every conman on the planet knows hot to abuse the system . They also like to block all your familys accounts should you owe them any money which they say is in the tos
In some cases, Paypal just acts on it's fancy..and there is no redressal system. However, In this case, it's a clear case of Fraud Cards which paypal might not have any control.
Were the transactions from a Verified Paypal User ? If it is verified, the likelihood of fraud is lessen. I've actually now turned away unverified or unregistered paypal users as a precaution after encountering such fraud cases in the past. Actually in the end, you are the merchant and you should take the due diligents to determine if the person you are dealing with is who he say he is. The other payment processors that I use as the same policy of taking the funds from my account if someone does a chargeback or when it originates from fraud.
Fraud is a pretty big crime, and it runs rampant through the Paypal medium. Why is it that I have yet to hear of a fraudulant buyer being investigated by the correct authority. I know fraud is bound to happen through Paypal, they make it so easy? I just wish Paypal would report enough information to get some people arrested. That way the kiddies may think twice before trying it. If anyone has a news article anywhere reporting a fraudulant Paypal buyer getting busted please do share.
The buyer was verified one .but still i am at trouble . Does paypal has minimum concern for Sellers??
This is quite simply a cost of doing business. You can move to your own merchant account but guess who eats the chargebacks there? Fraud is pretty rampant online and there's not too much you can do if someone does do a chargeback for whatever reason except pay big money to have cards scrubbed on your own merch account. Even then you still have risk. Sorry for you loss mate.
For big ticket items, I believe it is best to use escrow. True, fraud is just part of the cost of doing business. Do you have the Courier Slip for the package which you can provide as proof of delivery ? If they signed for it and it is mailed to the registered mailing address, the other party is just trying to pull a fast one here. If you have proof of delivery, scan and send that to Paypal, I am sure that should protect you as they can verify with the courier company and get a trace of the package.
How to set this up? Even I don't want payments from unverified users, as I just came across a chargeback myself, and that's after 3 months of sending the downloads. Do I have to manually resend the payments as soon as I get them, or is there an option in paypal account to deny unregistered buyers? Please let me know on this. Thank you.
$5200 lost in last 12 months. All due to scammers. And this is a public forum so I don't want to express my anger but you can imagine some nice bad words here for them.
This is a ridiculous situation. Paypal is ridiculous. Last week i received a Reversal of a payment. This way Paypal is breaking the Law Security, once some people are doing whatever wants, and making frauds to it, without getting any kind of responsability. It seems there is no LAW in the world, no RIGHTS. Paypal is doing whatever he wants without respecting people rights. Paypal Sucks
There is no option to deny unregistered or unverified users. What I do is whenever I receive payment, I click on the Details and it will show the status of the user, if he is verified, unregistered or unverified. As long as it is unregistered or unverified, I will just issue an immediate refund with a note that I only accept verified accounts. This seems to happened with my other credit card processors too. The trouble with online payment is that we are always at the mercy of the customers. If they chargeback, the banks would insist on a refund and there is pretty much not we can do about it. It does not just plague paypal, it happens everywhere. All we can do is take some due diligents and just take it as the cost of business. In accounting, there is always this 'Provision for Bad Debts', it is just too common. Welcome to the real world.
That's what I thought, I took a good look in my account sometime ago, and was not able to reject unregistered buyers from making a purchase in the first place. When you posted, I thought may be something new is introduced... Thanks for clarifying.
