    Hey everyone,

My computer has this weird problem it wont let me save anything that starts with the letter q, files or folders. I noticed it when I tried naming a file quiz. Have any of you ever encountered anything like this? I cant even update WMP because it needs a file called qasf.dll.

Well.. that sounds like a serious problem. I did some searching and that is a pretty unique peoblem. You may want to run windows "system file checker" and see if something is up. Hopefully it is as easy as that, and a file was just damaged.

    To run "SFC" on XP
    1. CLick on start on the menu bar
    2. CLick on "run"
    3. Type in "sfc /scannow"
    4. Follow instructions that follow

Hope this helps and its an easy fix.

If seouser's tip does not solve the problem, you need to run a really good anti-virus anti-trojan program on your machine to see if it is infected. There is no reason for the system to care that a file name starts with a specific letter of the alphabet.

That behavior sounds like a program that has managed to hack the routines and/or the dll which is called to govern these functions. If either approach does not resolve the issue, back up important data files, do a proper reformat of the drive and reinstall everything from scratch. At the highest level or paranoia, reset and/or update the bios.

With older versions of XP do not connect to the internet until after the OS is installed and you have switched on the firewall. With older versions of windows download a firewall and install on your computer before going online the first time. Then apply all available patches. Then switch to viewing email as text only. Then install a daily use browser such as Firefox, Opera, or the 1-Defender fixes to MSIE. Then never download files from edgy websites.
