i have a compaq presario c700 laptop and it gets heated up badly, also the laptop gets shut down automatically after 30 mins, and the battery requires constant electric power to run it, which lasts only for about 10-20 mins if electric supply is unavailable.

i want to know shd i replace the battery for this one, or it could be problem with any internal laptop device ?

Could be the battery problem only, could be the internal device problem, moreover it could be combination of both!I think you better take you laptop to specialist!
    Good luck!

You may seek for an alternative battery from one you know to test your laptop with it, otherwise you should take your laptop to a technician.

    never owned a laptop,but...
when the cpu hits a certain temperature the mobo shuts the laptop off.there may be a setting in the bios that you can see what it's set at.
cleaning the fans will do a lot for cooling.you can also buy something for better cooling.

the battery is like any other rechargeable, after time the battery's life decreases.depends on how old it is.

    i own glasgowcomputers.com - a laptop repair company :)

you have overheating problems, you need to have someone confident to open the laptop and clean out the dust from the fan and also to remove the cpu and put new thermal paste. then close the laptop.

your battery is just old, you must get a new one.

this is a very common job in my shop.

possible fan problem with the heating up?

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced too. To maximize the life of a rechargeable battery you should let it nearly run down when you unplug it before charging again.
