Issue With A Thread

    Hello

I bought a domain in November 2011 and started a site ( it was not registered by any other person ).

Recently I received emails about a possible sale of that domain just to find out about a thread here made in Feb 2008 by a person who was selling this domain.

I would appreciate a moderator deleting that thread or editing out the url in that thread because it causes confusion among visitors of my site and some members on DP.

How can this be resolved ?

    Waiting for a reply.
    Thank you.

you might be able to ask a mod to remove the URL but IDK, they are pretty busy these days. Maybe ask the thread starter to edit his thread.

As far as I read the rules and limitations here on DP any poster can edit there posts 8 hours after submitting. After this period they can't do anything ... so, I need a mod to edit the url or delete the thread ...

They might remove the URL but I don't see them deleting somebody else thread.
Good luck, hopefully you can get it worked out.

... the thread is started in feb 2008, has 3 replies the same day it was started and that's all ...
the domain was dropped sometime between feb 2008 and november 2011 when I got the ideea for that project and searched for a nice domain to go along with the project ... and registered that domain ...

I don't see any reason for a mod not to edit all instances of the url of that domain or delete the thread since I'm the current owner of that domain and I really am not looking to sell it ...

Well, it's not your thread or the mods. They won't just delete his post for no reason. Like I said, they might remove the URL for you but the thread belongs to somebody else so they can't delete it because you want it deleted.
Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear but most likely gonna be the case.

As longs as my url or site name is deleted from the thread so people don't think the site is for sale it's ok with me.

So ... waiting for a reply from a mod.

Most people are smart enough to realize that a domain listed for sale in 2008 is probably not still up for sale in 2013. It is simply a fact that the domain in question was for sale in 2008. I don't see DP editing or deleting a thread which merely contains an accurate fact. Perhaps, if you want, you could add a post to that thread indicating that the domain is owned by you and not for sale. Barring that, I would just leave it alone. I have a hard time believing there enough of an issue to cause concern.

The easiest thing to so is just point to the date if someone inquires with you if it's still for sale. If nothing else, you probably got free traffic to your site because someone wanted to buy your domain. Or maybe it will lead to an unsolicited offer you would take... like maybe someone wants it for $1M or something.

I've pointed them to the date and I explained everything there is to explain but I would really want to avoid such emails in the future.

@digitalpoint: could you edit the title and any mention of the url in the thread ?

@digitalpoint ... No offence, but I am the current owner of the domain and I don't want any mention of my domain/site on DP, more so if the mention is that it's for sale !

I think it is my right to ask the thread be deleted/edited and even if you have the right to refuse my request you should understand the situation and resolve it.

Just imagine if that was policy then mods would spend a lot of time closing/deleting threads/posts for site, domains, scripts, or whatever that have changed ownership. Just have some canned responses ready in your email (if you use Gmail, I think there's even an option for it Labs and I guess other email services/clients have similar features).

As other people mentioned, if the listing is from 2008, no one in their sane mind would think it's still for sale. Those emails aren't even worth canned responses, really.
