Well one of my friend has been having this problem, so thought to put it here to find some clue about the proceedure or steps to be taken.

she bought a domain thru a hosting company at the time of signingup for hosting package. The problem is that hosting company [which she no longer uses now, still have the hosting account] is not transfering her purchased domain to her godaddy account rather they changed Nameservers to their hosting servers [her old server account].

No matter how many times she enquires or request no result.

Can anyone throw some light on this issue.

    Thanx

Did she read the fine print, some hosting companies will register the domain in their name as part of the trick to keep customers hosting with them.

Check the ownership on godaddy or whois on network solutions to see who is the owner.

they can't transfer if it was registered within 60 days, or if there was a change in 60 days

    ok.

    my 2 cents...

initiate a domain transfer OUT of current registrar to a RELIABLE one... it CAN'T be denied if over 60 days and domain is NOT locked.

i find godaddy good for this. they will do anything to get your domain into their system, and they have the infrastructure in place to do it.

    * anything they can / that is legal. :) in my experience.

    good luck.
