Israel & western countries vs. Islamic states

I'd like to set up a discussion on this question: Why is it, that Israel as an example, has been able to set up a first world country, in less than 40 years?

Where as Islamic states such as the old Iraq, and Iran, as well as Syria still hold places well less than all westernized countries. Is it because of the cultural priorities? Or is it the restrictive religions? Jeduism and Christianity hasn't held any society back, why is it other religions such as Islam seem to create such a backward atmosphere?

Also I was kind of under the impression that Saudia Arabia, United Arab Emigrates have some pretty advanced areas in their countires.

They got tons of christians and jews in Russia and Africa and they got tons of areas that messed up.

Clinton handed $60 billion (roughly $1,000 per american household) to the russians and they are still worthless.

I think its more of the type of government...you have govenments such as the Iraq under Saddam and Iran under the ayatollah's (the president really doesn't run the country) that are so strick on their own people and show hatred towards those that don't agree with them....that leads to the same thing in communist countries....oppresion by the government.

This is so obviously moronic. Take a look at how much aid the U.S. gives Egypt and other Muslim nations.

They have some very "wealthy" areas, but they are lacking anything nearly as "advanced" as Israel in terms of technological development, political development, or non-oil GNP.

Education is simply an investment that people make in themselves when they see a possible future return.

In Islamic countries, the odds of getting ahead by the sweat of your own brow and the thoughts of your own brain are significantly lower than in Western countries (including Israel).

Look at the trouble Iran has with building permits. Building permits are given out based upon how good of a Muslim you are and how tight you are with the local religious authorities. The result: The houses built in Iran since the revolution are falling apart due to poor design and shoddy construction.

In a functioning society, people will invest for the future -- and education is just one type of possible investment. In a non-functional society, there is insufficient motivation to invest for the future.

Compare progress in terms of education, jobs, human freedoms etc. within arab muslim countries to countries such as korea and japan.

Arab muslim countries restrict human freedoms, restrict business development, restrict modern education, etc.

The oil countries have this huge wealth and blow it on small royal familes and crap.

The same countries restrict job growth because of the above restrictions. They got problems. Then they teach their people through fundamendalist muslim teachings to attack someone else and blame it on someone else (ie Israel and the West).

Dubai is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its gross domestic product. A majority of the emirate's revenues are from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ) and increasingly from tourism.

So, by your ummm... "logic", Egypt should be almost as nice as Israel about now -- especially as Egypt doesn't have to spend as much money on defense as Israel does.

But wait... the facts don't bear that out. Israel is an advanced democracy which contributes to the world economy and produces a steady stream of technological advances from which we all benefit -- and Egypt is a nice place to go to see ancient stone burial mounds.

You're comparing Egypt (386,000 square miles and 79 million people) to tiny little israel (8,500 square miles and 7 million people)...

so lets see... we're giving billions of dollars MORE than egypt to 7 million people, compared to billions of dollars LESS to 79 million people. Hmmm

Yo! has more than made his feelings known about Jews and Israel.

Their goal has been to build a stabilized country. Instead of playing victim and seeking virgins and worrying about how to kill the "infidels," they actually work to make their little slice of islamic tolerance into a thriving economy. If palestinians had done the same, they'd have a nice country too. But they are too lazy and hell bent on following the scriptures of their holy book to kill Jews. What are the odds?
