Nope, war didn't end communism - sheer human nature and common sense ended communism - it just can't work!
My two pennies worth on this subject though is: both sides are pretty much as bad as each other at the moment - israel keeps on building on land they shouldn't, and palestinians just keep on breaking truces (I don't think a single ceasefire has ever been 100% adhered to by palestinians because there are always a few individuals with some pretty big axes to grind). Both sides end up killing women and children, and both sides seem to just want to propagate the entire situation. really a ceasefire and pace process should be the easiest thing but In don't think there's an end in site for quite a while...
Lol - I hear they're also planning a war on global warming - they're just gonna bomb the hell out of all the global warming that they can find
I suggest you to make Aliyah to Israel. Build your home in Sderot or Ashkelon. or in anyone of the tens of cities and towns under the rockets attacks of Hamas's monsters and animals.
A better way to approach it would be to ask, "How long would the soviet empire have continued without the vigorous resistance applied by the US?". Communism didn't just collapse, there are reasons any system collapses. Had the Soviets not had to spend much of their energy fighting US backed resistance, like that in Afghanistan or say, the arms race, that energy could have been funneled into other places that may have helped seal the cracks in their foundation. I know as a blind devotee of Ron Paul you believe that the US has never been involved with anything beyond our borders that has had any good consequences, and that stuff that happens around the world doesn't really effect us(unless it's in the form of blowback), but this view just doesn't jive with history. And the US didn't start the wars anyway, the communists started them by wanting to take their neighbors over by force, because that's just the way they did it. The borders that are drawn today between north and south korea are pretty close to the borders that existed before the communist north attacked the south to start the korean war. Do you think this would be true if the US had not got involved? Do you think south korea would exist as we know it? Think for yourself for a second nate and answer that question to yourself without asking yourself "what would ron paul say?".
I'll be a better man and not resort to personal attacks. Thanks for the offer though Lemme guess, you were for the Banker Bailout? "If we hadn't have done it, who knows how bad it could have been!!" Gimme a history lesson then bub. So they forced us into the war? I guess that makes sense since they have Congressional power and all that. I see you've still got a bad case of the Red Scare. Maybe other dictatorial forms of government around the world at that point in time doesn't mean much to you, as a historian. 'Long as communism's dead!
Don't you get google in utopiaville? Just search Korean War. It's a subject that hasn't been as muddled as much as others by anti-american propaganda because it's largely been forgotten. No. They forced the choice between letting their oppressive way of life spread by force and opposing them. Pretty simple stuff really nate. We could have pretended that communism wasn't a threat to us or the world; we definitely had a choice. You really only have two choices in this debate. You can attempt to rewrite history or you can just openly sympathize with the communists who were attempting to spread by force. You might as well go with the second one since sympathizing with the commies is really no worse than sympathizing with terrorists. Communism was the main threat. The fear the communists caused was warranted through their actions. Feeling threatened by communism was not like, oh say, feeling threatened by a global elite who hides in the shadows dictating world events and the course of history. Their aggression was conducted in the open through the overthrow of countries and installation of communist regimes. I know you have this little love affair with russia, since they are the only ones not going along with the NWO, but let's not rewrite history, OK?
You obviously don't get my point...I will not travel to Palestine/Israel...I will not use my favored status as a Jew to settle there...those settlements are imperialist outposts established in violation of indigenous rights. It would be wrong to do so, and would invite the sort of reprisals you apparently think I don't know about. I also don't care for the universal draft system, I don't owe the government any years of my life and refuse to serve in the military of any country. I question the sanity of a population composed primarily of veterans. Such people have a hard time losing the habit of war. Both what I understand of Judaism and what I believe about human rights preclude these actions. I find it abhorrent that I see this violence coming from the same people who taught me to "never forget" and never allow the crime of genocide to terrorize a people. I do, however, reserve the right to condemn the government of Israel for failing to ensure the rights and lives of the people who were displaced by the establishment of a Zionist state. Not all Jews support Zionism. In fact, many Hasidim are also vocal with the same plea. I dare say, Ohad...if killing the refugees in Gaza is the only way to protect the settlerments, perhaps the settlements need to be suspended. Jews can move; it has been our entire history. I am not saying that I support the retaliation by Hamas or any of the attacks on settlers...I would like to be very clear. I expect my Palestinian counterparts to also urge moderation on their extremists. These "animals and monsters" are merely freedom fighters. I know this is hard for you to accept. But any people would rebel against the treatment the Palestinians have received in the forming of a Zionist state. Ben Gurion was a self-proclaimed terrorist. Your indignation wears thin. Too many crimes have been committed by the military regime of Israel I know that you are in a very different world...one charged with testosterone and self-righteousness and the smugness that can only come from being surrounded by those who share your view. I'm sure you are justifiably angry about what Hamas has done to Israeli settlers. However, the attacks from Hamas have come after decades of strong-arming. The airstrikes on Gaza will send young Palestinians in to the arms of the most extreme groups and perpetuate the problem. There have been opportunities for a peaceful settlement, particularly under Rabin, and these have been squandered by hard-liners. Look at it logically...does Israel expect to bomb these people into submission? Does the "leadership" really believe that Hamas can be wiped out by these means? That it won't be replaced by an even more militant organization? Martyring the people of Gaza only guarantees a new generation of Palestinians and supporters will hate and fear Israel and Jews. The place to be is at the negotiation table...every bomb dropped pushes the sides further away. I implore you to consider ways to break the cycle of revenge.
LOL. Just wait until Gtech and his gang come along and say that you are actually a Muslim pretending to be a Jew.
LogicFlux, the communists were doing nation building in the post ww2 era just as we were doing nation building in iran in the 1950's , no difference. The only reason it was in the open was because it was reported to us through western media. Im very sure they knew of our overthrows of third world countries as well. amanamission: Its a shame that we dont have more people on both sides that are like you. If we did we would have had world peace. You are a credit to the human race
How is an infected tooth a threat? How is any infection a threat? It's a threat by ceasing to only exist in contained pockets and by spreading throughout the whole. And if war did occur the anti-western communists would have had a lot more power after forcibly assimilating other countries into their alliance. It's simple arithmetic really. Having 2 countries gives you more power than 1, 3 more than 2, etc. Not that my trying to explain it in elementary terms will make an impact with you. I know I'm fighting a losing battle with you, I just like watching myself type.
I was raised in an American town widely noted for its high population of Holocaust survivors. I'm not a religious Jew, however. In fact, I have had to renounce the faith entirely in light of these tremendous conflicts. My ethnicity as a Jew can not be removed, however, Fox news fans to the contrary. Be assured that I will have no time for these accusations. I believe Ohad knows that I speak the truth.
This is where I stopped. You know why? because you are ignorant. Your claim is that the bombed cities Sderot and Ashkelon (and Ashdod, Beer Sheba, Netivot, Ofakim, Yavne, Kiryat-Gat, Kiryat-Malachi and a lot more under Hamas animals rockets attacks) are "illegal settlements"? or "settlements"? That shows your totally ignorance.
Um, if you want to use the term nation building, it would be best applied to the Marshall Plan, which lead to "the fastest period of growth in European history" between 1948 and 1952. Except "continent building" would probably be an even more suitable term.
The word "illegal" is yours...perhaps you are accustomed to answering this charge. I said they were imperialist. You can discount what I say all you want. However, people like me make your life possible...with those cans passed about in Hebrew school class and the JCC's and lobbying in Congress. There are many more like me, especially among the young...keep up your arrogance, and perhaps the support from the US will stop. Have you ever wondered that this self-righteousness is part of why so many in the world hate the Jewish people? You refuse to read on because your prejudice and misconceptions prevent you from seeing anything except evidence that you may comfortably ignore everyone else's viewpoint. Shalom Aleichem
lmao, yeah and that s/he can't practice taqqiya on infidels, then ask her when you will give the rest of the occupied land back to Israel? but if it was proved that s/he was a Jew then he has something about it too, self-hating, or self-destructing Jew, all because they do not share his sick views that are fed by his own hate which makes him look for similar cases to exchange whatever written info they can find in their art of hating Islam and Muslims, forgetting that the real, whether historical or recent, refutes their lies, anyway, lets not pick on Gtech please and wish him a rapid recovery. amanamission, you have made some good points, I do not think there is a worry from Muslims, as I think most distinguish now between Zionist terrorists and Jews, it is true there were times when there was a confusion between both, hate against Jewish was fed by the Zionists mainly so they can use it as a card to beg for sympathy, it still being used as you may notice some here trying to paint all Jews as Zionists, but thanks to so many voices in the Jewish community, in revealing the crimes the Zionists did against Jews first before others.
That's what you said: "those settlements are imperialist outposts established in violation of indigenous rights.", When I proposed you to live in Sderot or Ashkelon. Again, that's show your ignorance. Sderot and Ashkelon or any other city or town that under rockets attacks right now is inside ISRAEL INTERNATIONAL RECOGNIZED BORDERS. THIS LAND WASN'T CONQUERED IN 1967.. If you call those "settlements and imperialist outposts established in violation of indigenous rights", You are simply support in the destruction of Israel.
