Take a look at this thread over at the resource zone: http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11070 I decided to jump on over there just a few minutes ago to take a peek and possibly ask about one of my own sites I've submitted fairly recently. Before asking, though, I figured I'd take a look at how others are formatting their requests so I don't get my head chewed off by some DMOZ Monsters. In any event, the guy requesting a status update has been waiting over a year for submission. Now, back a few years ago I used to be a DMOZ editor. I stopped because I was bored with my category and left (which I would imagine is the same thing within a LOT of categories in the DMOZ) web development for awhile. However, the resource zone was created as a central point for inquiries about DMOZ. It is not hard for someone to accept or deny an entry, especially one that is being asked about and is getting a response from an editor. I just don't see why/how AOL could let the DMOZ function like this. This isn't news to anyone, really, I just felt like giving an example that I found not more than 2 minutes browsing their boards.
crazy! Guess the theory is to submit and forget about it 2 minutes did it to me as well ... same standard replies
Reading through the status requests on resource zone is like watching the "soup nazi" episode on seinfeld. No soup for you! come back in 6 months!
That's some funny stuff. I've thought the same thing about the soup nazi. Everyone has to tiptoe around there following the rules to a "T"...or else...NO link for you! What ya gonna do though, eh? I guess just move on and forget it.
That's pathetic But you can bet that every single one of the guys that replied have all their sites listed at DMOZ... and it only took them a few hours...
It takes more effort for them to answer status requests than it would take for them to add an entry. DIE NAZI'S.
It seems that they only become DMOZ editors so that they may feel a little bit of power in their pathetic lives. Processing requests doesn't give them that feeling of power. Processing requests is a service, and that doesn't feed their starving psyches. What does give them the feeling of power is witholding requests and responding abusively to status requests on the ResourceZone.
The funny thing about it is that it's in plain view and no one can stop it. It took me literally 2 minutes of browsing their boards to spot something like this. There's nothing we can do, but I really wish Google didn't support DMOZ as much as they do. Their mission statement claims to not be evil, yet by supporting DMOZ, they're almost guilty by association. Why does Google need a directory anyhow?
