Yes i want to know this as in many directories i have been listed on a pr 0 page. So is it useful!! Regards
If a directory has a high PR on the homepage, yet the first level of categories it means the domain never went through the last update used as a directory. You need to check the domains backlinks. if it has PR0 inner pages, yet is heavily promoted, its safe to submit. If it has PR0 inner pages, and has little backlinks, expect the owner to be part of the QBC. If the directory has a good PR on the homepage, the higher the inner pages PR the better. It means the direcory is "strong" and your listing will be benefited well. Try look for other ways to measure a directory - PR can be manipulated easily. Its one of the many factors you should judge a directory on.
If I am not mistaken deep linking sorts out no PR and low PR on the inner pages but why bother. If a page is indexed the link gets counted. Some will argue that one link is stronger than another but I dont see it. Links on pages in the Supplemental index get counted and unless its PR you are looking for dont stress. Then again dont take my word for it. Google might well surprise us all and it may well base the relative link strength on the PR a page carries.
If the purpose of your link is to gain high page rank it is useless to place the link on a PR0 page regardless of the homepage PR.
I have asked myself this same question many times. "Should I spend $50 at a directory...only to be buried in a PR0 page?" My answer is, that you should not be submitting to directories based only on the PR of a directory. Many top, strong, High PR directories, with good traffic, have PR0 inner pages. Most directories only have 10-20 listings per page. A new page is started when the limit is reached and it will have PR0. If their domain name is www.bagofcrapgjehjhkjgjkx.info and they claim to be a PR 4,5,6,etc. "Directory", that is QBC. A solid "directory-related domain name", is important...in my personal opinion. A site with High PR, with 0 to few backlinks, is highly unlikely. On the other hand, keep in mind, it takes time to build backlinks. Even if you submitted to 10,000,000 directories today, the backlinks may not show up for a month or longer. In closing, If it is a strong directory, lots of relevant backlinks, PR 4,5, or 6, good traffic rank, then the new inner pages that are PR0 now, will probably be PR 2,3, or 4 next update.
A good post. Dont submit to directories for the PR juice, do it for the backlinks whcih will increase your SE ranks.
