Isnt it a good keyword ?

    I have a website .. www.chemicalhouse.com ..
It tops Google, yahoo, msn for keyword "chemical trade", "chemical business" , "online chemical trade" etc.
but I hardly get any visitors.. I wonder if these keywords are not popular enough ? Is there any software available, to check how competitive and popular a particular keyword is ?

    THnx

Have you tried Nichebot or keyworddiscovery? Both of those sites can help you determine popularity of keywords.

    According to http://www.shoemoney.com/serps.php ...

Search Engine and Position for "Chemical Trade"
    MSN Search: 15
    Google: 1
    Yahoo!: 5
    AltaVista: 5

I think traffic is your major problem (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/?keywords=chemical+trade&country=us):
    chemical trade 2.0 /day

Not a very popular topic on the net. Too small of a niche.

Besides, anyone would rather surf the net to, sayyyyy, look at nude photos, or something. Not go looking for a fenitrothion dealer, or a cheaper phenanthrene supplier.

Sorry but Jessica Alba is infanitly more popular on the internet than something that caters to about 100 nerdy chemical sniffers.

Have you considered joining forums, yahoo groups, or Myspace groups in your niche to gather traffic through a signature? You might be surprised at how many forums are out there, and possibly your niche has a few forums to be found. If you find none, consider starting a few groups in addition to what you are currently doing to service your niche.

I have an idea about chemicals and the like and I would have never used terms like 'chemical trade' to find stuff. I'd say try something like chemical supplies, laboratory supplies, lab reagents, and also company names such as sigma, aldrich, fluka, etc.

put those in a keyword suggestion tool and see what more you can find

check for traffic with the tools suggested above or in www.nichebotclassic.com

You may want to look at the search terms people are finding you under other than the ones you have targeted, I had targeted Fort lauderdale to Miami
Then found Most people where coming through FLL to MIA I reduced the town names replaced with airport codes and suddenly things picked up
Recently I have seen a noticible difference in traffic considerably more coming to the FLL side of the site again looked at my site & found in most instances i had used FLL To MIA A Quick change here & their switched a few to MIA To FLL & it increased the MIA Side with out affecting the FLL side
The Most subtle changes can bring major changes I Would advise against
doing a major change though do it in small increments like in the game of caesar or sims to much & it blows up
    Good Luck

Check your web server log files or AWSTATs - hopefully you have access to one of those. I get about half of my keywords from my log files telling me how people actually found me. Well, minus all the weird terms you will find - but it will give you a list to work with.

Use webposition 4 if you got the cash. That'll show you what your ranking for the keywords you enter in it.

As for how people are currently finding your site, yeh awstats, Google analytics or a number of scripts like statcounter will tell you what keywords are bringing in traffic.

You may find the keywords your currently getting traffic for aren't keywords you've considered using. Either way, if it's bringing you good quality traffic, once you establish/recognize the keyword, you can focus on getting #1 for it and driving the majority of traffic it receives in the se's to your site.

The DP keyword suggestion maker isn't perfect though, for instance, if you type in games... the logical thing would be like popular games (Halo, etc..) and PS2, etc.. but it more or less just lists synonyms.

There's also Overture, which is now part of Yahoo. I use it all the time and it gives you a good idea what people are searching for and suggest alternatives :)

Go for a more interesting keyword and blend it in with your content.

There are programs to analyze your traffic-logs, use one of those to find out what popular search-phrases are people are actually using to get to your site.

Optimize for those AND all synonyms you can think of. So for instance on one page you optimize for chemicals for sale, and on another for '<specific chemical> price'. My guess would be a chemist needs a certain chemical and looks for that specific one on google, if their current supplier doesn't stock it. Make sure your metatags have all synonyms of the relevant chemical in them. Chemicals have all sorts of names. So if the main page uses the most common ones, get the old-fashioned names most people don't use anymore in the metatags of the page for that chemical.

This might well be a difficult niche to target, but in the long-tail there should be a decent number of people looking for it - and adsense ppc might be high as well, because a decent amount of money is made in chemicals.

    Hi,
go to this page : -http://inventory.uk.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
    and search for chemical.
Maybe you had better change your keywords selection...
