Google has spent $100 million in the YouTube/Viacom copyright case it appears to have won and they consider the money worth spent. what do you guys think? I am doubtful on this coz I can see YouTube has a lot of potential for being profitable but it seems that they are yet to do anything specific for making profit?
are u kidding mate youtube is making huge money,,,,,,I guess youtube is one of the most profitable google's venture
okay i will take back my words. you are probably right but the fact that they didnt break out any numbers as yet ( CFO just said 'incredibly pleased by its trajectory' - that's it) just makes me wonder if anything went wrong...
I think Google has earned a lot via the "Advertising" link on the bottom right corner of youtube homepage. all the best,
My friend in this world every company is standing when they earn profit. If they are not making any profit it's hard to stay in market. The market is completely competitive.
many time when I open a video I have to watch 15 sec commercial.. and that adds up... I bet advertiser pay at least one cent for each impression... and the in video bottom ad is pretty relevant too... I clicked one and twice... I would say youtube barely break even of operating cost.. but the brand value is of great value, and bandwidth cost can only go cheaper..
I can't see why youtube would be losing money. They get so much traffic and have lots of advertisements on the site so I think they are probably doing fine. Even if Google is losing money on youtube the information and data they are collecting on internet users and videos is worth the loss. They own the search engine industry as well as the internet video industry. The power they've generated from youtube and google is massive.

Can you imagine what kind of setup they must have just to store the videos and bandwidth to serve them up! I wonder how many videos are uploaded to youtube every second or minute of the day. It's got to be of the chart huge.
It would be shooting in the dark trying to guess about youtube's profitability as we are not aware of the expenses/revenue of it... but looking at its huge size, I doubt Google would keep it afloat if it is not making serious money for them. Regards, RightMan
