Question; To those of you who have opted out of displaying CPM/site targeted ads - how many of you are still getting CPM impressions? I have a site that's been opted out of displaying CPM ads for more than a month yet this new report is showing that my opted out site has been serving up thousands of CPM impressions per day... What's the point of opting out if you're not actually opted out?
How do you get paid for CPM? Is it only available if someone actually pays to advertise on your site?
This is actually a huge step in the right direction for Adsense. It doesn't provide us webmasters with all the information would like, but it's way better than trying to guess the figures. I'm actually suprised at how many site targeted CPM impressions my sites are getting. The CPM is also much higher than the contextual ads, so I'm happy!
I noticed a few weeks ago that when I type "mysite.com" in google search (with quotes) that a certain site comes up in the advertising on the right. It's the only result, and is a direct local competetor. I'm personally not worried about this competetor, (We're better and less expensive ) But I may just nuke them from advertising now that I see just how little I'm getting from them for a click! If your site is targeted, try it and see if this works for you.
Same here, I put them in the blocked filter list on adsense. That'll teach 'em! I've been thinking of putting their domain in some anchor text.. see how they like.
As my keywords don't add up to much and never will... this new feature will certainly help.. as my traffic is huge... So am I reading it correctly... if I get "site" under the targeting column that mean I get paid-per-impression? I don't remember opting in or out... how do I do that? Must be having a blonde moment... but then again Lisa Marie did marry again for the fourth time and all hell broke lose on both my sites... thanks
Contextual ads are the normal Adsense ads we all know and love. Site targeted ads are CPM ads that are paid for according to the number of impressions. An advertiser must specifically want to advertise on your site, hence the "site targeted" part.
Hi GFC, I requested to be opted out of CPMs at the beginning of Feb. The stats confirm that for the 7 days or so that I was opted out, there were no CPM impressions. I then asked to be opted in again. This happened and CPM impressions returned.
ooh, didn't notice this, thanks for the info! Nice to see my sites have some targeted advertisers, shame no real cash is being generated through it.
cool this is great i didnt know my sites were targeted! itll be nice if i knew who it was, could offer them a separate advertising deal
That's true. CPM ads don't really target a site. Google adsense algorithm naturally selects the highest paying ads. For e.g. if an advertiser chooses a CPM campaign, he'll have to choose a rate that is higher than those CPC ads. I think it's also for this reason that CPM ads are rare for my handful of websites.
Ummmm ... I ran reports since Jan 1st, 2006 and I've had a whopping total of 23 of these - wonder why someone would target www.komar.org ... but regardless, kinda interesting to know.
