My sites are relevant, highly ranked and considered the subject matter experts in the field. Therefore they are NOT in DMOZ
Incorrect... they work as hard as required to remain editors. that is not laziness... of course it's not going above and beyond, and does not say much for those calling it a hobby, but they are not lazy. Are you and editor? Have you applied to be one? What would your answer to either of those questions say about you? If you are an editor, then you are lazy. If you have not bothered to apply to be an editor, then you are even lazier So before you start calling names, assess yourself.
ODP editors are many things, no sign they are lazy. There numbers are dwindling to the lowest levels ever, their site is irrelevant and they spend an incredible amount of time defending their reason for being. Its hard work deflecting attention, defending rules and statements whose meanings change daily, denying potential editors access, etc etc.
LOL. How can me pursing my hobby be irrelevant? Is it irrelevant if you collect stamps? or like walking the dog? I have absolutely no interest and neither does DMOZ in any value a listing might give to a site. I just enjoy following my hobby, when I have time, in the areas I want to work in, for as long as I want of collecting and collating URL's and if others want to use that work, that's great, if not, that's great. I enjoyed building the categories, in much the same way that no one sees or views my stamp collection other than myself.
It is getting extremely hard to get accepted to DMOZ. Even if you have the best site in your niche, it's very subjective and the waiting time is infinite, nearly all the time. I think it's worth 5 minutes of your time to register, and then just let it go... If nothing happens, so be it
nope my site doesn't listing on dmoz, I try to send proposal but until now my blog cann't approve with dmoz
I've had a few sites listed in DMOZ. Also next time search, this question has been asked several 100 times on DP..
Walking a Dog is not a hobby. Could be exercise, certainly could be a necessity unless you like your dog messing in your house. Your hobby, for me equates to the following analogy: "Hey guys I collect antique coins, wanna see them?" and then he shows me 400 coins all dated 2012 Your hobby is just like that except the absolute opposite. You collect lists of websites from 2 years ago, in this technology (The Internet Web) when things change hourly, and 1 Internet year equals 10 technology years, your hobby my friend is amassing a list of antique websites. In the non DMOZ world we define a hobby as: an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation. If it pleases you and relaxes you to make a list of 2 year old websites than good for you. For me it would not relax me because clearly 90% of everything you review is junk and certainly not pleasing to know everything you do has a value to no one and is outdated before you even start. To each his own! Enjoy the "Hobby"
To me, 5 minutes spent buying a lottery ticket is 5 minutes better spent than this. If it pays off it has value. Not true with DMOZ. Just my opinion.
Its good to know that your signature no longer applies As for the ODP being irrelevant, yes it is, by most standards today. Directories themselves are falling by the wayside, and you yourself say they add no value. So outside of those that edit there as a hobby, irrelevant. Sad but true... As for your hobby being irrelevant, no its not, I applaud you for taking the time to do what you enjoy doing. You should just leave all of us nay-sayers and do what you enjoy...
I've had several listed a decade ago, I am well-placed to attest that they draw absolutely no traffic whatsoever. As for the hobby, it's like a lining up grains of sand on the beach. Rather pointless. But if it helps with the OCD...
