I'm a full-time front end developer. I make a decent living (better than any of my friends with "real" jobs) but lack the credit. Lots of people don't take my job seriously (friends, family). I'm often told I spend too long on the computer (whats the difference between spending 8hrs at home on a computer, or spending 8hrs on a computer in an office? Nothing, so why is it bad for me to be on the computer at home) and need to get a real job, real experience, learn etc (basically they think I must suck, as I have no real "qualifications") Who else has this problem?
Yeah when I first got into it, everyone thought I was doing something shady or doing porn sites or something. They just don't understand the industry. At the end of the day, who really cares what other people think.
Well as a student I am enjoying this online job and I am earning more money then offline job. So I would do online job as full time job. In online job we not need to archive Goals or we don't have BOSS
My family and friends tell me "You must be kidding, you earn through the internet? Oh really?" with a funny look. Lol. It's just not that acceptable for ignorant (not hooked with the internet) people.
Yep. I had my step-mum say something along the lines of: "Why would people pay you instead of paying a real professional" Erm, because I am? I don't really care what other people think, but when nearly the whole world thinks you're a nutcase (especially friends+family), it does start to be annoying!
I am just starting to get into it so all the people in my day job think I am insane. I mentioned it to my dad when I went home a few days ago and he did not seem to understand that working on the internet can give you a real residual income for years to come. Although if your grasp of English is such that you use 'taking' when you should have used 'taken' I think you ARE in teh wrong profession
I'm a freelancer and i can say people around me take my job seriously. I earn more money than i would by working in an office, i get to make my schedule and i do what i like, not what someone else forces me to do. People are starting to realize that the internet is a big opportunity to earn your living.
What country are you from? I think the countries that understand the power of the internet more than others are those "3rd world" classed countries. They could get $1/hr working at their local corner store. Or they learn an online trade, and easily make 10x that within just 6 months. Because the cost of living is so low, they can undercut any person from a "developed" country, while still being classed as cheap (even though they earn tons compared to their friends in "real" jobs!)
My friends still suggest me all time that i need to concentrate on my offline business more then wasting time on online Who cares as i know that online business is also helpful to earn money if you do it properly. Anyway thats their (friends) thinking and this is what i think. DON.
What the hell, I earn both ways. Haha, I don't care if my officemates say I use the internet too much 8)
I have as they call it "a real job" but when I didn't, I got alot of the same crap from them saying things like its not guaranteed etc etc. I think that they are just upset because 1: They don't have the skills to do it themselves 2: They are jealous that they can't sit in front a computer and do almost nothing for $$ I stopped listening to it as they have no clue as to what they are talking about. I got proof that I can make money from just signing up for offers - its a great way for that extra bit of cash when you need it
I have worked in the offices before and earned not that good. It kept me from my other interest. Now online work is starting to flow and I m giving it a full time. There were lots of ups and down. I first started from getafreelancer, then moved to forums and found a wonderful Green looking forum. I am earning well enough to pay my bills and still I am working all alone. I think its about time to make a team up to do more work. Working alone is not easy task. My friends, they just wonder what the hell I do and how do I earn. I do share them but I know that they won't believe or not even worth sharing to some of them. The Bottom line, I should work hard, no matter where, earn money and get rich.
I get the same sort of reaction. Most people don't understand what I do either. "You make designs...for what? What kind of designs, HUH?!" Most people don't realize that those pretty little images on webpages... yeah people actually make those! Imagine that!
People around me also show the same reaction. Some even WORST! But I enjoy their negative reactions. It stimulates me to work harder to earn more. I use their negative energy to boost my online job. And it works! The harder the reactions, the more money I earn. Sometimes I think that I don't want them to shut their mouths up. LOL But that's what happen. It's interesting.
