A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, back when I was first learning about affiliate marketing, I was learning everything I could about making money on the Internet. I bought just about every Internet marketing course I could get my hands on, but like most marketers I wouldn't get through half of the course before I moved onto the next one. Throughout these years of epic failure, I've learned how to do things the hard way, through trial and error. But only one thing is capable of separating the lions from men, and that is the landing page. When it comes to epic failure, there are few who are worthy of taking the cake. Despite my knowledge of computers and Internet, I allowed my arrogance and pride to get in the way of my success. You see, I am a Linux user. And I judge the world according to myself, in that most people who have a brain in their head would at least use Firefox as their web browser. That was a big mistake. I had a particular landing page in operation for over three months before I witnessed the horror. I had set up a service to record the heat maps of my visitors, and after a while I began to laugh at the stupidity of my users for they were clicking all over the place not knowing where to go, even though I had a big red button telling them what to do. I also set up tracking to see where my visitors were coming from and what operating systems they were using. I had invested in countless dollars for pay per click campaigns only to see very little return on investment. That was, until I checked my sites in Internet Explorer. To my surprise, over 70% of my visitors were Windows users browsing with Internet Explorer 6. We'll guess what Internet explorer 6 is incapable of? Web standards. Turns out Internet Explorer does not know how to handle PNG files, or any other standard CSS code for that matter. All my landing pages were horribly disfigured, and no one was able to click on buttons that they could not see. So to you I ask this: is your landing page keeping you from making money?! Don't make the mistake, like me, of not cross checking your landing pages with the most used operating system and Web browser. P.S. I hate Microsoft
Excellent point. Most people don't take in account the horrors of Microsoft Exploiter... Here is a nifty tool to make sure your site is compatible with EVERY browser known to mankind:http://browsershots.org/ Just try not to click on every single one at the same time, it will take forever to scan your page on all of them. I usually just check a handful of main ones...
Unknown spot on, one of my sites that I "was" proud of is effected by the same "disease" I call M$. To my surprise I linked a few friends while they were at work to let me know what they thought, to my shock, a few screen shots later I wasn't happy to say the least. I am trying to resolve the issue which has been a complete pain in the butt, my wishful thinking has been telling me "but how many people still use IE6?", after checking my stats apparently 45% of visitors! I can take slight cosmetic difference but we are talking about total deformity!
