Hello, I was interested in whether other members have made a conscious decision to make their blogs NoFollow or DoFollow, or indeed if anyone actually thinks about this? The default these days seems to be to keep a blog NoFollow, and I buy into this as it reduces spam, non human posts etc etc. However, from a marketing perspective there is an arguement that a DoFollow blog will encourage people to post on your site, if these posts are of high quality then it can be said that they are helping to improve the relevance of your site/page. Offering a DoFollow link in return for a quality post seems like a fair swap. Is there anyone that has any thoughts on this? Has anyone thought about this and justified it either way. Thanks, Mike
i think, offering a dofollow will help other blogs,to prevent spam we can use spam protector like akismet
Dear charlieuk Dofollow is the opposite of NoFollow. Wordpress blogs, by default, use the HTML nofollow attribute on links that point away from the blog. This nofollow attribute comes into play with the posting of blog comments. The nofollow HTML tag tells the search engines NOT to follow the link to any other web sites. There two major reasons why Wordpress sets it's comment links to nofollow. 1. It's good SEO for the blog since there will be fewer outgoing links and therefore less "link bleed", leading to better Google page rank. Sounds good! 2. There are blog spammers out there who will, and have, posted blog spam comments solely for the benefit of getting more incoming links to their site, which helps page rank. Using nofollow discourages those junk comment posts since there is no SEO to be gained by them. That makes sense! DoFollow blog owners go against the norm by turning the NoFollow tag off, and enabling dofollow on out going comment links They give them something in return. They give them an outgoing link to their website, when they make a quality comment on blog. Hope this helps Regards Tehmina
I set outgoing links to dofollow on a case by case basis. Good comments get rewarded, worthless ones get deleted or a nofollow attribute.
2 of my blogs are Do Follow. I delete spam comments anyway. I really don't waste a lot of time worrying over PR.
Dofollow doesn't stop spam anyway. Akismet is much more effective. However, it may hurt your google rankings.
