Is the amount of PR and actual traffic worth the cost to pay Yahoo to "look at your site for inclusion"? For those that do have Yahoo links, what sort of traffic do you get from Yahoo? Ones of visitors? Hundreds of visitors? Thanks, Brian
I had an old website that I ended up selling that was listed in Yahoo's directory and I found that it really didn't do a thing for me that was worth it. As far as now how much traffic my websites get from search engines it breaks down to about 83% google, 7% yahoo, 5% msn, and then a variety of others such as live, and niche related engines.
Yeah I don't think Yahoo directory inclusion is as important as it once was. Google even went so far as to remove their webmaster guidelines recommendation about submitting to directories like Yahoo. The good thing about a Yahoo directory listing is that they have multiple versions, each for a separate country. So you actually get several backlinks. These links are fairly low value though. I would only pay for inclusion if I had a large marketing budget.
That's sort of what I thought. The price seems far too high unless it was bringing in many qualified visitors.
I think there are other more cost effective ways of building PR without paying Yahoo! for a link such as Dmoz and many other free directories. Just my opinion.
I don't think its worth the cost and I agree with what the majority has already said about this. The worst thing is, there is no guarantee you will be listed, since the cost is only for considering your website. So they can easily reject your site and you'll still be charged. And even if you do get listed, there is little value in it.
I don't think it worth it... like someone else says my visits from search engines are mostly from google by far.
Not worth it anymore. I have a bunch of sites that are listed there and have been for years, since last century even. Looking at stats, you get virtually zero traffic from the directory since they separated it from their search engine. Not much help with link building either. It's a "trusted" link, but a link on DMOZ, LII, GoGuides, BestOfTheWeb, JoeAnt, WOW etc. is just as trusted I think and those are either all free or much cheaper.
Probably not worth it. If you are going to buy links, only the highest quality links are worth buying. And usually the Yahoo directory page link is low quality (usually PR correlates with the quality of the link).
I think directories idea is web 1.0 dinosaur which is dead already. Directories were good then search engines output mumbo-jumbo instead of highly relevant list of sites. Search engines evolved and now it's easier and faster to use Google's or Yahoo's search instead of directories. Also for PageRank I use social bookmarking sites - just few (10-20 sites) submissions may boost page rank from zero to 3 in one update.

Yahoo directory is worth if you need tons of traffic from yahoo. Most SEO reports are considering yahoo directory as equal to DMOZ.Paying $299 is too much and if you have a big commercial website then submitting to their directory will be worth.
