Yahoo visitors seem to stay longer on site. Most importantly I also get more registered users coming from yahoo.
I always optimise my sites for Google but find that Yahoo and Bing will follow suit although usually weeks later. Once they do start ranking though both Bing and Yahoo then outrank Google for the same keywords. For example for one of my prime mini-sites out of the top 16 traffic keywords (not top ranked) in Google I have 2 at number 2, 4 at number 3 and 2 at number 5. - 12 sit in the top 10. With Yahoo, for the same keywords I have 8 at number 1, 15 in the top 5 and all in the top 10. Bing has 5 at number one, 6 at number 3. I did a quick review if my recent traffic and it's around 80% google/7.5% bing/12.5% yahoo. I didn't really see much differnce in the page views/bounce rate but that may be due to the small sample size. I did notice that Google traffic comes from all over but Yahoo seems to be 100% USA and Bing is USA/UK only so maybe the geographics have some influence on the 'quality' of the traffic from the various search engines?
I also second that. yahoo is sending better visitors and sometimes more. Google traffic may be getting too diluted as they are involved with so many other things like adsense, adwords, youtube, phones etc.
I feel that Traffic is Traffic but when we count it & compare it with our profit & sales then we come to know which is better converting. so both are good but when we got something from them it comes as Best..
I`m not sure one is better quality than the other. What I do know is that I get far better results on Google for some sites and better results on Yahoo for others. Just that I can`t fathom out why exactly.
The Google vs. Yahoo debate makes me smile. Not many people understand the habits of different internet generations. It is worth taking note though... As a general rule, if you are getting your traffic from organic results, any organic results, it's great - although as a general rule it's those who have been on the internet for longer, the 'older surfers' that tend to have remained loyal to Yahoo. This stems from the early days when Yahoo was top dog. For the last 8-10 years Google has become the default search engine for the majority, so these newer surfers, those generally of the younger generations, those 20 yrs or younger' or the older generation, those bugged into using the internet by the younger generation (so those 50 and over), will visit you from here. If your sites content is more valuable to those likely to be in the 25 – 50 age range, many of whom have decent disposable income, you need to ensure you rank well in Yahoo as you will get some great traffic from here. If you only appeal to those over 50 or below 20, only really worry about Google. **DISCLAIMER** these are generalisations – I can quote many examples of them not being true, but they are correct far more often than not. _______________________ If you are looking at paid clicks through either Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing, the demographic options (location, age etc) within these programmes mean you can get equally good and targeted traffic from both. I always recommend keeping the above statements in mind about 'Users Age vs. Search Engine' as those who keep their demographic details a closely guarded secret will tend to fall into these. Hope this helps open a few eyes SEO Universe
