I have been receiving a number of hits on my sites recently from Yahoo and have noticed a large conversion percentage, so I did some musing as to why Yahoo traffic might convert better; 1 - Google is the search engine for the masses so everyone uses it and the majority of your hits will just be "surfers", looking for something interesting and staying on sites for 0-5 seconds 2 - Yahoo users are probably a bit more descerning Internet users and are more likely to be looking for what they find and consequently stay on the site for longer, and may well convert 3 - Yahoo users may be of a breed who have become disheartened by all the rubbish that Google tries to force on users and are after a search engine that just gives results, so they use Yahoo to find your site and are serious about what they click on Nonetheless, I have seen a marked increase in my conversion rate and I will no longer rule out Yahoo as a powerful search tool for my websites
I agree that the numbers of people who find my site through Google is far higher than all other engines put together, but I have noticed that I get a different type of viewer from Yahoo, one who is more dedicated to what they are searching for and not just someone jumping from one site to another. Be interested to hear others views ...
yes i totally agree with OP, When it comes to quality of traffic those are real visitors, Yahoo is better than Google.
OP you have a point but why do you feel people searching on google arent actually going to stay for long ?
I agree, although I get very little traffic from Yahoo the ones I do tend to convert higher than google visitors - i don't really know why though, perhaps it is more targetted. I also find the same with bing - espesically PPC. i seem to find it hard to get good yahoo serps though
i prefer yahoo traffic, it consistent not like google, once ur major keyword Serp drop and traffic drop too but this thing hardly happen in Yahoo SE ...... my site stat : yahoo : Page visit : 7. Ave time : 3.56 minute Bounce Rate : 32% Goolge : Page visit : 5.2 Ave time :1.52 minute Bounce Rate : 59 % btw i have more Yahoo traffic then google 2.4k vs 400 (g)
From the traffic going to my forum, and from my google analytics account, traffic from yahoo has a 20% lower bounce rate then traffic from google. So yes, yahoo traffic is more targeted and has a lower bounce rate then google. Traffic from google has a 48% bounce rate, yahoo traffic has a 28% bounce rate.
Yes, I see higher quality traffic from Yahoo. More real consumers and less trash, less bots, and less competitors clicking around. Just MUCH lower volume
I totally agree with op, the conversion rate from yahoo traffic is much better than google. I hope yahoo will enjoy its era again.
Most people coming to my site from Google more than Yahoo or from the others but I haven't checked the time people staying between Google and Yahoo.
