Is Yahoo Still Better Than Google?

Discussion in 'Publisher Network' started by Fork Media, Sep 30, 2006.

I just read the sticky at the top of this forum which infers you can make more money via YPN than Google's AdSense. But I see several complaints about decreasing revenue in the recent posts.

    So is Yahoo better?

Has anyone switched from one to the other and noticed an increase or decrease in revenue for the same amount of traffic?

YPN is up and down all the time. Lately though, they've been doing well.

I don't think Y!PN has ever been better than AdSense. I've made a lot more through AdSense than through Y!PN. I simply get a lot more clicks for the relevant ads on AdSense.

Depends. Either way, not a BIG difference, IMO.

Last month and before, YPN was a lot better for me than AdSense. However, this month, they are about the same, unfortunately.

AS has taken the lead. CPM down 50% last week or so.

Are you referring to two or more different sites, each with a different network or do you sprinkle the two networks through one or more sites equally?

My main or home page gets a ton of traffic but no pages below it are even close to the main page in traffic. Since you can't mix networks on the same page, I'm trying to figure out whether trying Yahoo over Adsense (which is what I have now) is worth it.

You may not be able to mix network ads but you sure can use scripts that rotate the ads and determine for yourself what has a better CTR or overall earnings. From my research it all depends on the site and content what network will perform better. I am confident you will continue to hear mixed results. Its best to experiment IMO.

I dropped yahoo and they called me, didn't seem shocked for the reason I dropped em'. The reason being their ads just can't compete with the CTR, so even if at the end of the day they pay 3x as much it still doesn't add up. Just doesn't. Saw a little more money, but Google seems to fluxuate quite a bit. It's nice to see competition, but at the moment Yahoo can't compete until they have more relevant ads to up the CTR.

Hop this answers in the fullest.

It would be nice to hear when people are doing better with certain networks what there content or nitch is on. The ads/network may do better on certain sites.

The only issue I have with YPN is that only US people can join which I think is ridiculous. Most of my sites target the US market so all the traffic will be from the US. So let me join.. Doosh Bags

YPN has a lot lower of a CTR than adense, but a higher RPC.

It basically evens itself out unless yahoo has their "good" days, where you can earn 150% more than your "normal" days. A few of those a month and you beat anything that you could make with adsense.

I recently moved most of my sites to Adsense. YPN wasn't paying close to what it used to. The CTR and RPC dropped really low. They both pay about the same for me, but at least my visitors get mostly related ads with Adsense.

YPN lower ctr, more worth per click
Adsense higher ctr, less worth a click...

I still make 10 times more with ypn then adsense on gaming related sites. Sure, adsense ctr is higher but they usually pay $0.01 - $0.03 per click.

Is there a repository of scripts like that somewhere? PHP or Javascript or CGI?

I haven't found any by searching. Probably not using the right keyword combo.

I didn't use yahoo untyl now but I bet is better than google, lets not forget the terms of condition which yahoo has and google.I choose yahoo first because of this, and sec I think the prices are better, like I have read in some forums, ppl was saying that is beetter with yahoo, but now is depending on your business too.

As Ezo said, Adsense has a higher click thru rate because they serve more targeted/relevant ads. YPN, on the other hand, has been known to pay more per click, but their ad targeting isn't as precise as Google's.

This is my opinion, but I believe most would agree with me here.
