Is Yahoo on the onset Of an UPDATE?

Here is why I am asking... I was doing a rank check on 3 of my sites with Addweb late last night (6/16). 2 of them showed major change in position, so i went to do a manual search for them, and sure enough.. titles and little changes i made to the sites showed up, and some new pages were indexed. Yahoo had cached an old version of these sites from about a month ago, So I was a bit excited at the new changes... I checked the sites again manually on Yahoo 2 hours later. The new pages that were indexed dropped out, and the ones that were there reverted to their old titles and cached version of a month ago.

Does this mean they are getting ready to change???

Anybody else experience the same thing?

There is hardly ever any rhyme or reason to Yahoo. Usually... don't hold your breath.

Someone posted that Google was on the verge of an update today. Do Yahoo and Google updates coincide? Or is that just a coincidence?

Hey VS, I don't know if they coincide but i do notice that after a Yahoo update, it seems like Google feeds off of it... uhhhh sort off.

Anybody notice that? Does google depend on yahoo to some extent????

Google and Yahoo! have totally independant indexes, although Google does spider the Yahoo! directory, as G updates every 3-6 weeks (it updates backlinks and page rank only perdiodically, new and changed pages are updated on a rolling basis constantly) as it updates 3-6 weeks, then there is a fair chance that it might appear to be following, as they both use spiders, and both have many of the same pages in their index.

It appears that something has just started with Google. Likely the start of an update. Results will likely be 25-27th.

I have no faith that Yahoo follows any schedule. Seldom do I see anything change on Yahoo, while Google updates in about a 3-week cycle.

Okay Well it seems that YAHOO has updated these sites again... will that last thru the night or will it revert to a month old cached version again?

Does anyone else see these changes RIGHT NOW?

 NEVERMIND!!!! I give up trying to figure it out.... Yahoo just reverted those sites back..

It is the second night in a row that they seemly updated their index only to have it revert to the month old one.

Are these signs that a permanent change is coming?

    If we only knew... :D

How do you check your ranking in Yahoo, anyways? Maybe I'm just spoiled using the Digital Point Keyword Tracker, but manual checking just seems so cumbersome :D

VS, I use a program called Addweb Pro, it checks many search engines and multiple search phrases for my sites and comes back with a rank and tells me the position and whether it has "gone up" or "down"... and if i notice any significant changes then i manually check to see what version of the site they are indexing.

Anyway this is the second night in a row Yahoo got me horny, and they reverted to that old stuff.

I might just change my screen name to disgusted too! :p

Might you be seeing the effects of a rolling change to an updated index?

You can't predict which server a search might be running on. If they are in the midst of rolling out an updated index, then some of the servers would have the old data; some would have the new data.

But then again, Yahoo sometimes seems to sometimes retrieve ancient data from an AltaVista or Inktomi vault and throw that outdated junk onto their index.

Yeah Hopefully that's what's happening! yahoo doesn't update as often as google, so it's kind of a big deal, so im hoping that the updates get on all servers soon... cuz i love the new positioning for my sites on this "new update"

    thanks for your insite

I have noticed that for some of my sites, caching on Y! is considerably older than G. Is the the norm?

Like vinyl, my backlinks seem to be update fairly often.

When it comes to updates, compared to Google, Yahoo is asleep.

Yeah backlinks update often.... It's changes you make to your Sites (ie. title changes, content changes) that take forever to show up...

some of my site still have cached titles on yahoo that have been updated about a month ago..
