Is Yahoo Directory REALLY worth the $299/year?

    Here's why i ask...

I've already spent the $299 for the year and I am now in the Yahoo Directory.

    http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Shopping_and_Services/Apparel/T_Shirts/Specialty/?b=160

it's under "Shirt Fight"...the very last page in the yahoo directory under specialty t-shirts lol.

The PR is 0 for this particular page.

Now, i'm pretty sure the odds of someone finding me via a yahoo directory is pretty small...and the PR is 0...so is a Yahoo Directory submission REALLY worth it? Are there other benefits that I am overlooking?

    Thanks!

Good question, welll I think its worth having your sites linked on large portals - every link counts I think

I think its a better buy for e-commerce sites and sites that have a hard time getting organic links.

My bad! I thought I saw you on the first page too. That does make it an interesting question. I have never gotten traffic from yahoo's directory, so I cancelled my subscription 2 years ago, since I was buried too. I think $299/year was better spent elsewhere. Unless you are on page 1, I don't think its worth it, IMHO.

You could spend that same $299 at several differn't directory and have more links and be on higher ranked pages. Since in most directory's you dont have to renew each year, you will have additional cash every year to spend at more directorys.

I really can't imagine $299 for directory listing in yahoo. Don't you also have to PPC? :(

Well, it is said that yahoo is biased a little towards sites that list in their directory, so if you want to rank well in yahoo, it might be worth it, even though they bury you on a page rank 0 page.

If your going to be put on page 2 onwards where there is no pr on that page its not worth it at all. Waste of $299, suggest you just cancel after your year is out. It wont bring any users to your site and will do you no benefits at all being there.

What benefit is there for being on a page with no pr and nobody visits, for $299 a year.

    Not likely.

I would have chosen a different category to submit to.

I have to agree with fordP. There are far better ways to spend $299 that will reap far better reward. But like everything it really depends on whether or not you are receiving targeted traffic that converts to sales from this advertising venue.
