Is Yahoo Answers worth the effort for traffic?

I've heard some some others doing it, but I've never heard a real report of how it worked. My niche is Christianity (theology, applied ethics, etc.) over at my blog, http://www.christspeak.com. I just looked at some questions at Yahoo, but I would like to hear from someone who has experience with it before trying it too much myself.

    Thanks!

I spent 1 month to test Yahoo! Answers.. I regularly visit few times a day and answer some questions. They provide decent traffic and has low bounce rate.

After 1 month, i stopped and observe the effects. It turned out that i am losing traffic as the days passed by. So, Yahoo! Answer isn't worth it. Because to generate good traffic, you need to be active on the community.

    Hey Submerged,

I started using yahoo answers to begin generating back links to my website. I found that the traffic alone wasn't enough to justify making posts in there every day. At first it seemed like I was gaining some success but after about 2 months Yahoo shut me down because I included links in the reference section back to my site. I didn't feel they were spammy but Yahoo seems to be getting much more strict with the Yahoo Answers domain.

I have tried yahoo answers and the traffic disappear soon if I don't carry on answering the questions.
I think SEO is still the best way to gain traffic.

Some people find it as good traffic.

Honestly every time I have used it, I have never seen any results.

As mrdo suggested, those are well. Post some advertising on free sites.

I've posted there for almost two years and have found that it has medium value. I give it at most 5-10 minutes a day and get about 250 visitors a month. But any links you post will be nofollow.

You have to post useful answers, otherwise your post will get deleted if it appears you're simply posting to add your link.

But as others have said, there are better ways to drive traffic. I would use this one if you have some spare time.

It's full of a bunch worthless and common sense questions such as "what color is blue?" -"What color should i make my myspace page?" or "What color should i dye my hair?" and when you do post a link everyone labels you a spammer.

    LOL

    Depends on the niche.
I still get decent traffic because of the search factor.
Was banned long ago, but the traffic still comes.

Play with Digg long enough, and they will not only ban your account, but remove the postings from the face of the earth....leaving NO residual benefits.
It recently happened to me and one stream of income was annihilated.

So comparatively, Yahoo Answers isn't a bad way to go.

From my limited experience with Yahoo! Answers, it is not a good source for traffic. It requires too much dedication and will produce only limited and fleeting results.

This is why experienced webmasters don't deal with it.

    I agree.
In my niche, I simply was able to get a bunch of residual traffic from popular searches.
Beyond that, you are only playing the spam game, hoping to ride it for as long as you can before getting banned.
Black Hat marketing, at the very least.

I used it for a few months and did get some traffic out of it. The problem is the amount of time you have to put into it is not worth it. SEO is still the best way to go...that is also time consuming, but it pays off in the end.
