    Hi,

I am totally new to SEO, and I want to know is website traffic related to SEO? Because its really next to impossible to get your website on first page in google search engine.
So, can we target for yahoo, msn??

    Thanks,
    Milan

Can you elaborate your question in more detail?. I mean website traffic related to SEO no one will get it. Web site traffic are the visitors which comes to the site to visit. And you can surely come in Google if you do proper organic white hat SEO.

They can be interrelated to a point. For example, if a site does rank near the top of a search engine result page for a particular set of keywords then it is likely to have more organic traffic. Traffic in an of itself is part of the SEO ranking system, but those who do not have traffic will need to find ways to earn it. This can be done by guest posting, using services such as YouTube, Ezine, Ehow, Hug Pages, Bukisa, and so on. The goal would be to rank highly enough to have organic traffic, and that makes keeping rankings much easier in the end.

@Milan If I understand your question correctly, plain old traffic won't help you in the search engines. Keep building out your content and links and you'll start to see traffic.

I believe that other sites RSS feeds are not considered content for your own by search engines. You need original content.

If you want free traffic you have to be in the first 10 positions in google results and for this you have to optimize on site and off site.

There are other options for bringing in traffic, but they might be inconsistent compared to google search: traffic from facebook, youtube, social bookmark sites etc.

There is also the option to pay for your traffic. There are various networks that sell cheap traffic :)

@Milan Ok... Yeah if you're not producing you're own content and it's the same as probably a few hundred or thousand other websites... it's going to be tougher to get those pages indexed.

Are your homepage, about us, and contact pages at least content?

To me website traffic is related to SEO because the more traffic you get it also counts in the ranking system of Google. It dictates if your site is popular.

@San Diego SEO... I have to disagree with you on this one. It's a signal to SE's about a quality website, no doubt about that. But, does traffic alone directly influence rank? nope. The reason for this is that it would be just too easy to game Google.

If rank based on traffic were the case, we would see a lot more people buying any kind of traffic simply to improve organic search-engine rank... the way it is with links right now.

When's the last time you've seen a third-party advertise selling traffic as a way to boost search-engine rank?

Search engines only have a place on the web so long as they provide useful results. It is not possible to game search engines using the same technique over and over again precisely because they respond and adapt or die off. With that being said, traffic is a consideration that is weighed in, but it comes with some caveats. The bottom line is the McBrett is correct in that it would be possible to game search engines by buying traffic, but search engines use so many different ways to rank pages and red flag sites that show serious inconsistencies across several methods of evaluation. Think about it: if you ran a search engine and your sole purpose was to provide relevant results, you would want to measure sites in many different ways: traffic, linkbacks, social networking, and so on. If any of these metrics showed anomalously high readings, you would want to have code in place to detect those and flag the site as worth a little more attention. After all, if you are a search engine then the only way to get people to come again and again is by providing them concise links to whatever it is they want time and time again.

All the traffic comes to a site is from three different sources like direct, search engines, and referrals.

Search engines do not have that much contribution towards the direct traffic of a website. But the search engine traffic and referral traffic can be increased with the help of proper search engine optimization.
