Is "Web Hosting" The Most Expensive Keyword to Bid?

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by bizhost, May 13, 2010.

    Hi

Has anyone bid for the keyword "Web Hosting"? I have a good quality score in Adwords for the keyword but to be shown in the first page the minimum bid is $10.00 yes TEN dollars for just one click.

I am curious if anyone has actually bid for that Keyword or related keywords and how much was the bid?

    Thanks

First page minimum bids are based on QS so each one will be different. Doesn't mean that's what you'll actually pay. I'm sure there are other keywords that cost more.

I have been using adwords since 2007 and I know how QS works. I have even paid $5 for clicks but this one was way too high a bid for me. Which is why I wanted to know if there are anyone out there bidding for this keyword and actually paying such high CPC.

I searched for "MESOTHELIOMA" in google but there was not one ad for that keyword. Do you think its the most expensive keyword. Did my research and found that awhile ago "DUI Austin" was around $35... Not sure how much it is now!

It is sound reasonable to bid 10$ per click for hosting as customer gonna bring you long money. nobody serious changing his hosting.

Yup, you are right StreamCo but I was thinking about the conversion rate for such high bids. If I were to bid $10 per click and only converted 1% it wouldn't be feasible to sustain my biz.

Most of the generic keywords will always be costly... but $10 click will be due to low QS.. have you checked the QS for your keywords?

The QS is 7 for that keyword. Its the competition for that word that's making it expensive.

Web hosting can be a very lucrative business. One client is worth hundreds of dollars over the lifetime of that client so yes, that will tend to drive the click cost up. Many host companies also going after that client so it's very dog eat dog. I'd try targeting sites people visit to start new businesses and looking for a web site. Will be cheaper even if you end up paying $2-3 per click.

I have a few insurance clients that have very expensive keywords, many are 20+. But when an insurance policy costs so much it is worth it to them. They still have a very high roi.

Yes I agree with all your points on the CPC. Web hosting is in fact a lucrative business to do but it is also very expensive to market.
