Is web 2.0 a good idea for a new site?

Just got another domain and I really want to make it successful. Im trying to figure a design out and was introduce to web 2.0. The site I want it to be kinda like firetown.com sorta but with a twist of my style of creativity but not sure where to get a proper web 2.0 design from. Any ideas?

Web 2.0 is not a design concept!

The simplest definition of Web 2.0 would be user interactivity - utilising technologies such as AJAX.

So Web 2.0 is more on the coding side than the design side - as it what the user has to do on a site, rather than what he sees.

Though blueparukia is technically correct with his definition, I know what you mean by a classic "web 2.0" design, as there is such a thing as a web 2.0 site design, though web 2.0 isn't about design itself. I would check out CSS galleries, as these usually have some awesome site designs with some web 2.0 features. If that fails, try Googling "web 2.0 designs" or something.

Although I agree with you blueparukia, the smooth design style with colorful and glossy buttons and such is mostly referred to as web 2.0

Awesome everyone, I really appreciate all the great advice and the clear definition of what web 2.0 really means. I hope that the site I create is successful and will post it in the review section for everyone to critique.

By the way, if you have any other great sites that I can learn from, it would be great. Again, thanks.

Web 2.0 would be a great path to take.

Especially if you plan to sell the site in the future. No one will buy a site that is coded in plain HTML.

http://cssmania.com displays great Web 2.0 sites.

I think web 2.0 is overrated and a chunky/slow environment to work in. I work at a software company and I don't even use the .net or the web2.0 I still use the windows GUI version of our software. it loads faster and saves me time.

.net and web 2.0 is a waste of system resources.

It depends upon your target market and your traffic generation method. For the younger generation, eye candy and hence web 2.0 is good.
