I am not familiar with vzdump but obe of my webhost has provided me a backup from it.
I am wondering if vzdump is always installed as a default on linux based vps or is this somthing i will have to install first before restoring backup?
what should i be looking for in vps to find it?

    Hello there,

The script vzdump is for servers set up with OpenVZ virtualization, and is not part of a default Linux distribution. You would need to install OpenVZ and set up the server for virtualization.

    Regards,
    Chris

Your new host (assuming they are running OpenVZ) will need to restore that for you.

    OK, thanks WSWD and Chris.
Since my vps does not have openvz installed, I guess I have to hire someone to do that first.

No, this is not something you take care of. OpenVZ is installed on the hostnode. It's the virtualization layer. Assuming your VPS provider uses that virtualization, you just need to ask them to restore the vzdump for you.
