My new website will have a rview on Vista PRE-SP1 and SP1 enabled. I am going to keep it short, however summarise the things you need to know as an average user. I'll tell you when it's complete.
Vista is pretty good.I am running it on my notebook and it is better then XP atleast Ultimate edition is better!
I'm going to wait, I will probably skip right over Vista XP is much better and it will serve me well for a few years still
i have been using vista for well over a year and found it user-friendly and easy to use. havnt had any real difficulties apart from overcoming initial driver problems when i first installed it.
I've seen a lot of people bad mouth Vista something shocking, both on these forums and others. In my opinion, Vista is a better operating system in almost every aspect I can think of. Performance, stability, reliability, plus all the little extra features that aren't included in XP. That said, you do need a reasonably high spec computer to run it and I think this is a where a lot of people are having problems. They're trying to install an operating system which in reality requires at least 2Gb of RAM and a decent CPU, on a computer with 1Gb of ram and 1-2 year old very average CPU. It just isn't going to work people! A number of my mates tried installing Vista on their machines all of which are around 2 years old (give or take a couple of months) - all of which have reverted back to XP with nothing at all good to say about Vista. I wonder why!?! It's no different from trying to run a game like Crysis or Call Of Duty 4 on a computer with a 128Mb Video Card - it just isn't going to happen and if it does, you aren't going to like the game very much. I run Vista Ultimate on my home computer as well as the work computer and laptop, all of which have never run better or been as stable. I've not seen one BSOD on any machine since I've had Vista installed (over 8 months on the laptop - it has had it installed the longest). That said, all 3 of the computers that I'm running it on have good/high specs - which is the key attribute to running Vista. Vista is not for the average home computer, especially if the computer is running hardware that is over a year old. I've tested Vista on many different machines under various environments (it's part of my job) and without lots of memory, new-ish CPU and video card, don't even bother running it - XP is definitely for you. I guess that is one of the down sides to Vista... what it "actually" requires to run, not what's printed on the box. Personally, I'm very happy with Vista and wouldn't even think about going back to XP at this point in time. With SP1 due out in March, I hoping it can only get better. My $0.02 anyway!
I think both of the operating system are great....Vista is new and lots of bugs need to be fixed. I recommed that you wait till service pack 1 realease. It will fix lots of bugs and make more relaible and easy. However, Vista has lots of new features than Windows XP.....Its new so everybody hates...
I replaced one of my computers 3 months ago with a Vista setup. It is slow to start, and layed out a bit different, but otherwise just fine. I haven't found any software that doesn't run on it. Not yet, anyway. I am happy enough with it. Thanks, Alton
