I'm going to start a forum related to a niche. Is it worth purchasing vBulletin? I have managed forums with phpBB but was not satisfied. Any feedback would be appreciated. -Matt
you can always try one of the free scripts and import to vBulletin when you have more money to spend to answer your question.. yes, it's very much worth the money, so is IP.Board. Both are paid scripts and sell licenses each and every day
yea, surely it is..once you purchase it you know how much customization you can do which were not in the free versions...More over, it sells becoz its good
Depends what features you want. phpBB is fine for me, but if I had to do it again, I would use punBB which is lighter and faster.
It's worth. Few months ago I have installed to my forum Vbulletin and I was very happy. To me it's really better than phpbb.
Its a good investment but when starting a new forum i would prefer a free forum software if it takes off then shift
If not vb I usually suggest SMF but I have not used it in a while. Vanilla is where it is at really but slightly different in its delivery. hope that helps, Nigel
For sure it is worth purchasing Vbulletin. The script is widely used, and even DP use it too. If you have money to spend, then go with Vbulletin right away. If not, free script like phpBB will do. They have many mods that can your forum much better. - Dynashox -
Well, you should go for vBulletin as its simply best in the world and has also got many facilities. phpBB is not that much good. Once you start using vBulletin you will feel the difference. - Digital -
Try Simple Machines Forums, it doesn't offer all the features that we can find on vBulletin but it's good
Actually it does... SMF has everything vB has. If not, there's a plugin for it. The only thing missing is the ajax quick reply (quick reply is still there)
Well maybe it has all user based features but does it have all admin based features which work behind the scenes ?
Well - Does SMF have a mail queue system - Does SMF have automatic promotions system based on posts count, number of days a person has spent
If you are going to create seriuos project - you should choose vb. Time will show that it's cheeper than free enginies, becauseyou should count your time, which may be spended on forum-problem-solving, too
Here are 18 others besides phpBB that are free and open source, check around and enjoy. http://php.opensourcecms.com/scripts/show.php?catid=5&cat=Forums RoxD
I own a vBulletin forum, it's a decent piece of software and the users find it easy to user and find features but my personal favorite for forum software is MyBB.
