    Def mate

I started on other format but once I sore it was working then put the money in

VB can import most other forum software so the change is not hard so if you have a forum that is starting to build then take the next step to VB as the script is brill plus they are always improving it

Just may thoughts over a cold one

thats the answer i thought i would get, im currently using phpbb and gettinh p****d off with all the security bugs they find every two weeks and if you have a modded forum its a nightmare to update.

Yes!!! But if you don't have the money, start with a simple free script, like a few WWWBoards. Then once the boards are populer, upgrade to vBulletin. Over a year, you only have to make almost $.50 a day to make the money back in a year (Then $30 per year for updates).

I don't suggest using phpBB at all. As we know, they're the king at having security bugs.

Well VB does update but the new 3.5 seems to take care of the updates if you have hacked your code

I know shaun is and has tested the many beta updates for 3.5 so maybe he could chip in on this

I think if your getting the traffic and you have the gut feeling its going to work then go for it

You should cover the cost with absense but that is not gar.. as forums are very poor on the on ctr but hay if you enjoy doing it then VB is the best in my little world

Oh I also started on phpbb which is great but I new that I had to make the next step

If I were you I'd use the free forum called SMF 1.0 ( http://www.simplemachines.org ). It is advertised as "SMF is the next-generation community forum software package that is jam-packed with features, while at the same time having a minimal impact on resources."

    Worth a look, at least.

Yeah... people don't really understand the difference until they get into the admin and/or start seeing how clean it's code is.

I have tried about every open source or free php bulletin boards.

I think vB is really in its own league. Almost any site I cared about I have already migrated.
