Ive seen there is a "best forum software" post in here already but i wanted an updated version. Thats over 1200 days old so things may of changed, i dont know as i've never ran a forum before.

The last time i was looking it was vb as the more prefferd forum, is that still the same? also does anyone know roughly how much it costs because there are the numerous options on the vb site which kinda confused me lol.

    thanks

If you're going to pay, vB is probably the best. It costs $85 for a one year lease, and $160 for an owned license. If you want to go the free software route, I'd suggest SMF (www.simplemachines.org). It's a really terrific software that I use for my forums.

Hmm, ill have to look into them. I wouldnt mind paying but if there is a good freebie then i would prefer to go with that if it has all the same features etc

Look into the new phpbb version 3. They completely rewrote the script and added a bunch of new features. It's in release candidate 5 now and probably close to final.

I'm using it and love it :).

Come on dude, don't promote removal of the footer Chris and the development team (including myself :p) work hard for it's success. The least people can do is keep a little link back in the footer.

Yes, it is and is reliable. vBulletin is more organized though.
