Is vandalizising website illegal??

i came accross a few websites that have been attacked by the same vandal group that i will not list here (pm me for url)

they raid and spam websites, with thousands of posts linking bafck to their site, and pictures saying "you have been vandalized by url" and they do it every so often to specific sites. wondering if group are illegal and anyway to stop them?

If you cant get their real IP adress which I very much doubt then report them to their isp, you could also whois the domain they spam to, find out who their registrar is and then report them to their registrar, and the registrar should cancel the domain. Chances are though they will be using some unheard of registrar but it's always worth a try.

 

I dont think the registrar will cancel the domain though to be honest.

 

It's probably illegal, but it must be pretty hard to get IP's and proof that those certain people did it. Not all of us have the tools of the feds :S

 

They may do, it's not unheard of and its certainly worth a try if nothing else.

 

If you have the server logs then it shouldn't be that hard to track the vandal down. It is illegal in the UK.

Thats virtually impossible in most hacking cases, any half decent hacker would never be caught using their real ip, the attacks would always come from say zombie machines, or via proxies etc, yes there will be 'an' IP in the logs, but will it be the hackers?

Also most of the time it will just be a simple defacement, probably on all the sites on the same server and only index files are normally affected, if you have backups then your sorted

its never legal but then maybe helpful for server owner to know there's vulnerablility in the server and to up the security

 

These guys dont hack, they just just spam the crap out of a website, the most recent one they are doing is wikichan.org
