Is using tags on sites a good idea, or can it be seen as spamming the search engines?

    Hi,

I have just gone to: http://www.articlesbase.com/affilia...sales-with-these-killer-techniques-54437.html and notice that they use tagging near the bottom of each article. What it is, is that when people submit articles to their site they pick the most targeted words that describe their article. They can normally pick anywhere from 1 and up to 10 or so keywords.

Once that has been done and the article is approved them tags become live and are just like categories. So any other article that has the same tags will be in the same tag category. So doing this, I would imagin that it would look like to the search engines that the sites that use tags are just trying to get as many pages as possible and are infact spamming them.

I don't know if I am wrong about this, but do you think it is a good idea for using tags on a site like the site mentioned above.

I was thinking of doing it for my visitors, but if the search engines thing that it is a form of just trying to produce as many pages as possible then I prefer not to do it.

I want to keep my visitors and also the search engines happy.

What do you think about this and do you think it would be alright to use?

It is also a way of making much more pages on your site.

So do you think it is alright or not then to use something like this. I was thinking of doing it for my visitors, but don't want to do it if it is bad for the search engines.

That is what I thought, but it is also a good idea for search engines to find and crawl some of the deeper pages. Although, I don't think search engines want the older pages to be crawled as they are outdated or is it best to get the whole of your site crawled no matter if some of the pages are outdated?
