Is using Facebook Groups for traffic only for Gurus?

I have recently set up my own Facebook group as recommended by one of the biggest Internet Marketing guru's Chris Farrell and so far it hasn't delivered.

Is it the fact that this form of marketing can only really work for the top guru's because of their
"name" and the thousands of business contacts they have?

I would be interested in your thoughts. :)

Hey Mike, I think the answer is in your question itself. Yes I have been using facebook for my business for a long time now and I feel that driving traffic from facebook groups as well as popular fan pages is only for gurus. Also the ones who have millions of members or likes can get more eye-balls to their advertising campaign by posting links or banners on their walls.

Something to consider is whether you are utilizing Facebook groups or Facebook pages. The groups are now becoming somewhat obsolete and being replaced with pages which people need to "like" in order for your status updates to appear in their newsfeed. Group pages require people actually going to the site to see what's going on.

I believe that you need 20 fans before you can do this.

Thankyou Luke, this is great advice. I have always struggled with when to introduce my offers to people. I think you have to relax and concentrate on building the relationship first, as you say.

    Thanks again.

You need 25 members to start one. Anyone can do it and it's def a great place to generate traffic!

This may be the best lesson learned anywhere. Stop wasting money on so called "Guru's". There are no shortcuts or easy ways.
You have to build your business, your traffic, your network, your services, your contacts, your product and learn business, management, marketing and so on.
    No shortcuts.
Still takes time and great product and an understanding of business to be successful.
And then once you have achieved success, you can write your own book and market it to desperate noobs looking for a shortcut and they will call you a "Guru" just because you can publish a book with a car on it.

Look around. Everyone is some kind of so called "expert". Most of them were doing something completely different 2 years ago, and many of them haven't made a dime.

Everyone and their mother has a "How to make money of facebook" e-book, or click bank product out there. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a "Social Media Expert" in the head....just like 2 years ago everyone had a "how to make money online" ebook and before that everyone was a web designer.

Take it all with a grain of salt, most of those people are just trying to make a dime just like you and are looking for what ever niche is popular at the moment.
Next year they will "specialize" in something else.
