is usenet/google groups a good place to get site traffic ?

there are some highly frequented and specialized groups on usenet (or google groups, whatever yu wanna call it)

I just noticed that mentioning of promoting there, for pulling traffic to an affiliate site is strangely under-represented. i hardly hear anyone mention usenet/groups.

People rather pay lots of $ or enter themselves in unknown/obscure lists...but why not usenet ? its free...uncensored.....and many people read the groups.

Extremely good for niche markets. (IMHO)

I have used the Google Groups to solicit authors for real niche topics. It has been successful and I do get a small trickle of traffic.
